OUR 2005 F350 GETS 10-12 MPG
THE 2000 7.3 GOT 16-18MPG, SAME AS OUR
2002.
DEALER SAYS NOTHING WRONG JUST NEED ADDITIVE.
IS 10-12 MPG AVERAGE FOR A NEW F-350 6.0?
Under what driving conditions? Highway, surface streets, towing? How is your truck configured? Also, that fuel are you using? Expect worst mileage when using #1 vs #2 diesel. Need more info.
If your doing a lot of stop and go surface/city street driving or towing a lot on the open highway, 10 to 12 mpg is almost normal. If your running no load and spending most of you time on the highway, then that's not normal mileage.

I agree, more info is needed. Is it a dually? 4X4? Mt driving? Towing? I assume no on the last two, but it's an assumption. I can tell you that my bone stock F250 started out during break in around 15mpg. I live at high altitude with plenty of city and Mt driving. I have 9K on it now, and it's getting better every tank.

Like everyone else has said, we need more info on your truck and how you drive
10-12 seems a little bit low to me BUT my truck started out below my expectations mileage wise also...it got better with age and miles and a couple of other little "tweaks!" );-D - Right now my signature truck gets about 15-16 in town and about 18 on the highway not towing...that is acceptable to me...not great, by any means, but acceptable...this is a big chunk of metal rolling down the road.

THANKS FOR THE RETURN INFO.
WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL POWERSTROKES.ALL WERE EQUIPPED ALMOST IDENTICAL
THE DRIVING IS TYPICAL FOR ALL.
WE HAVE HAD 95, 95, 2000, 2002 AND NOW 2005.
THE 2005, 6.0 IS CONSIDERABLY LESS MPG THAN ANY OF THE OTHERS WE HAVE OWNED.
BEFORE WE INVEST IN ANOTHER 2005 OR 2006 , I WAS JUST TRYING TO GET FEED BACK ON WHETHER IT IS COMMON THAT THE MPG FROM PREVIOUS POWERSTROKES TO THE 6.0, SIMILAR EQUIPPED AND SIMILARLY DRIVEN, IS HIGHER-- GENERALLY SPEAKING.
First off - please turn off the caps lock. On the Internet it's considered "yelling" and is difficult to read at times.
Mileage - depends on a lot of factors, but I can say that my 6.0 gets better mileage than my 2001 7.3 did. It also is better than the 1994 7.3 IDI at work.
I would say that your reported mileage is a bit on the low side. You say "almost identical" . . . does this mean the rear ends are the same in all of them? Could the 05 perhaps have a 4.10 and the others didn't? What time of year (assuming that your comparing "new" condition mileage between them all) did you purchase them all - winter blend fuels get bad mileage on the average.
If you think something is really wrong and your current dealer can't find the problem - can you try another dealer?

My '05 4x4 reg cab got 18.5 mpg highway miles on the first tankful. I did the hand calc one more time after purposely running the truck hard (although unloaded) and mixed driving and it came out 17.3. Someone up there must like me...
BTW- this truck pulls like a BEAST, too. It is possible to have your cake and eat it too- as long as you are lucky and pay enough for it.

Thanks in advance for posting without the caps key activated.
From what I gather, the new 6.0L is having a hard time equalling the mileage obtained from the older 7.3L PSDs. My truck consistently gets 18mpg hwy in winter, and in the low 20s in summer. Around town, it gets about 14-15mpg year 'round.

My '05 is equipped nearly exactly like my '99. The '05 will get 17 + under driving conditions that I was getting 19 from my '99.
I pull a 14K 5er and would get a consistent 11.6 with my '99 and am now getting around 10.5 with my '05.
I am not complaining. The '05 is more powerful with larger brakes, tires and frame. I think I would not expect more.

Ford made the claim in it's 2003 pamphlet that the 6.0 provided better fuel economy than the 7.3.
This has turned out to be an outright lie. Most of the people I've spoken with in person or seen posting here who had a 7.3 and now have a 6.0 have not seen an increase, they have seen a decrease.
When I first picked up my '03 6.0 it would achieve 19mpg (imperial gallon) empty on the highway. My '00 7.3 ran 21mpg. After being reflashed at 5 months of age, my '03 mileage on the highway empty dropped to 15 mpg. I always hand calculate and sent this information to Ford asking for it to be resolved. I'm told my mileage is normal and the truck is working correctly.
So as stated above, their claim for better fuel economy is a lie, plain and simple, false advertising.
Your mileage for US gallons is within what Ford claims in normal.

Has definately been the worst truck I've owned in my 30 years driving Fords.
