I have a 05 cc, 4x4, 6.0, dually with th 4.10s and with 345 miles on it I get 13 to 14 (trip computer) only one fill up of 28 gallons. Alot of stop and go and lots of different engine speeds till 1000 miles. I know that the computer can't be trusted but is all I got right now.

Ok lets try breaking in the engines before complaining, my fuel mileage just kept getting better until I hit 40K now at 50K miles I get consistently 22-23 mpg on hwy and 17-18 in city I live in mountainous area too. Plus it takes patients with the go pedal you hit it too hard it drops like a rock and I know alot of guys here like the pep of these beast and like get these monsters up to speed ASAP.
I think a good point was mentioned here. Are you calculating imperial or US gallons?

Exactly, it's that after reflash mileage that is killing us, and making a lot of us unhappy with Ford. Ford can't tell us all is well when their reflash costs us this kind of mileage. They are intentionally over fueling to try to compensate for other issues in these trucks and saying it's "normal".

Has definately been the worst truck I've owned in my 30 years driving Fords.
My 03 has the most current flash no mileage change was noted.....I have heard from a tech guy who said if the battery voltage fluctuates during reflash the programming might get messed up maybe that is what is happening to some of the truck my tech guy puts a charger on the trucks as it was reflashed.
Does anyone who frequents this forum have a 4x2 with a six-speed, OEM-sized rubber and 3.73 gears to go with their 6.0? I'd like to do a MPG comparo between the 7.3 and 6.0. I have tons of data on the 7.3 and will share how I got there. It might work for 6.0 owners.

Remember that you are probably running Winter blend fuel for the past 4-5-6 months. Depending on where you live. Winter fuel will never give you the same mileage as summer fuel.
You should see a bump in your mileage come April when the refineries start shipping summer grade diesel.

Where I live we run the same fuel all year, no winter blend. West Coast very mild climate. Further, I've been having the mileage drop since Sept '03, consistent winter or summer. For has been no help in getting the truck back to where it was before the flash.

Truck has 25600 miles and always hand cal. mine and just filled it up with 28.030 gal (she was thirsty) and cal. out 15.35 miles per gal. combined highway city driving on winter blend fuel in lower michigan, averging 415 miles before she is thirsty! best I've ever got was 20.4 all highway miles to virginia and back(summer blend fuel) Average around 12-13 towing the fiver. Seems to get better with milage. I was low miles per gal. when I first got it. You've got to give them miles before you can complain I believe.

I have a 6.0 that is just like yours except its a 4x4. I do about 50/50 city/hwy overall. my overall mileage since I bought the truck last april is in the mid 17's. I have 21k miles on the truck so far. Best tank so far is 20.2 mpg last august, 90% highway. worst tank so far is 14.2 mpg last month, all around town in very cold weather.
Typically when the weather is nice and im running #2 i get around 17-18 mpg with mixed driving. I usually drive around 70 mph on the highway and never run any additive.
We had a Y2K 7.3 supercab shortbed 4X4 auto F250 before we got the 6.0 and the avg MPG was about 14. The 6.0 avg is 16 and it's a crewcab long bed F350! This is mostly around town driving. When we went to pick up my truck this past weekend the 6.0 got 19 on the highway and that's running 35's!
JFRED, Just returned from a 5k + mi trip to Powell,WY. At 70-80 MPH fuel consumption averaged (hand calculated not trip meter)14.8 MPG. Considering the config of my truck (see sig)I consider this to be excellent. However, did not tow 5er on this trip.
At start of trip there was just 346 miles on the truck.

Well unfortunatly I got to the forum late, last service they re-flashed mine. Down to 12.84 towing a bass boat. I sure hope it gets better. Guess I'll look for some mod's that might improve it. Any suggestions?
Here is anothner comparsion with a fully broke in 7.3 and all the kinks worked out and remember very little in terms of emmision controls. Now we get the new 6.0 and expect it to be better by leaps and bounds right from the dealership. Not going to happen. Let it break in a while, don't run it over 70mph as it seems to really go in the tank after that and after 75 it's a joke in terms of MPG. This is just what I have expierenced. If you live in the northland and have blended fuel, new blended fuel as the fuel mix has changed over the past few years it will be down slightly from summer. Emmision controls seem to take some of the MPG away as well, but I would rather have the power of the 6.0 and the quietness with a little less MPG then the underpowered and noisy 7.3 any day. Well if prices don't keep going up that is.
Around town, back and forth to work summer, high 16's. Winter low 16's to mainly 15's. Towing lowest is 10.5 and average is 13's with 5 sleds and gear at 75, the slower the speed such as 70 and only two sleds I can almost squeek out 14's. My gasser didn't get that around town so I'm doing better all around.
