Hello everyone I am a ford man grew up with them, however I am a 7.3 guy, but i'm looking at a 2004 6.0 4x4 offrd pkg. 5 speed with 112k miles I understand the 6.0 have quite the reputation for junk correct me if I am wrong, but please let me know any helpful tips you can give me about these trucks I hear they are just problem after problem clue me in please will be greatly appreciated thanks!
Not to be rude but this topic has been beaten to death just do a quick search and I assure you you will find your answer way faster than anyone could post. Plus, you will learn a lot more thats what I have done.
But to answer the ? I have an 06 and I love it stock other than an exhaust and sct. truck has 62k and 22k with custom sct tuner. Some are great some are not like a lot of vehicle manufactures. But anytime you mod your truck there is an increased chance something is going to go wrong.
Depends on when u ask. One week i love it, next week i wanna roll it off a cliff....
So very true!

I am going to counter the posters above me since they seem to love to lurk in a section that isn't even theirs. IMO they might as well be trolls. Back on topic, I believe the 6.0 is a very good motor as long as you stay on top of the maintenance. The biggest thing is a coolant filter, that will save you headaches down the road. You're looking at an '04 so you'll still have the leaf spring front end, it will definitely ride like a truck. But taking everything into account, it's a great all around package. Great power, very good fuel economy from a diesel, and the internals are definitely more stout than a 7.3. If you're able to do your own work, then replacing an injector if need be won't be that much money for you, and an FICM fix is just pennies in solder. Most problems are caused by blocked up oil coolers due to casting sand, busted EGR coolers due to the oil coolers, head gaskets due to tuners set to kill, or basic neglect, ie: extended oil changes or filter changes not done on time. You said 5 speed so I don't know if you meant a manual (6spd) or if you were referring to the 5speed automatic. Either is a stout transmission, with the Torqshift being substantially better than it's 4R100 predecessor. I love my truck, even though it's had a few speed bumps.

+1 to everything he said except the part about feeding the trolls. I like to throw some bones every once in awhile because it makes the thread interesting instead of the regular lame ol' bit.
I've got a 2003 with 65K. 6.0 diesel.so far so good, just replaced the chassis mounted fuel housing due to bad sensor. Other than that, just routine maintenance. It has been a good truck. I wish I could hear more stories like mine.
I am considering the 48 month 50K extended warranty for $3000.00 purchased from Ford. This covers motor, trans, all the way to bearings. I'm considering this based on information that these engines are subject to failure based on their history. Head gasket blown may be $6000.00. I'm not a good enough mechanic to replace injectors and they would be covered also. Maybe this is paranoia on my part, but, I may do it.
Bought my 05 new and love it. One turbo and 2 cac hoses under warranty. If you neglect the maintenance you will learn to hate it quick. Take care of it and it will take care of you.

140k Miles on mine and tuned also...haven't had any major problems...just time change parts like alternator, water pump, etc. Don't believe everything you hear...as long as you keep up with the maintenance you'll be fine. Most people that hate on the 6.0 have never driven one daily.
