6.0 Thermostats and EGR

I'm curious about a few things. First, does the 6.0 respond well to a cooler thermostat like the Cummins does? Where can I purchase a cooler stat, if I so desired, as most vendors dont seem to carry them.

All suggestions , advice, guidance and debate is welcome

Re: 6.0 Thermostats and EGR

first of all- bond throw away that freakin diablo predator before you loose you engine! those things kill these engines, do a search, or ask me, I can tell you all about it! the thermostat thing Im not real sure about, but Im sure someone that knows will chime in. the egr thing is also a no-no here, your not supposed to talk about messing with them because they are a emission device which tampering with is a federal thing, but... you have a pm

Re: 6.0 Thermostats and EGR

You don't need a cooler thermostat. Cooler temps. will lead to incomplete combustion and less efficency.

Re: 6.0 Thermostats and EGR

So I guess you wouldn't know where I could get one to see for myself, huh? I have a grip on the higher temps = greater "efficiency" theory and its a nice theory. My real world experience has shown me the following: On my Cummins it picked up 1.5mpg consistently and subjectively seemed to run better. Numerous performance vehicles I have owned have responded on both the dyno and at the track to cooler stats, particularly in the 160 range. I guess I am saying, I'm not interested in debating cooler stats in general but would rather focus on KNOWN effects to the 6.0. I am more than willing to listen to the voices of experience of those who have tried it.

Re: 6.0 Thermostats and EGR

I have not seen anyone here since the 6.0 came out talk about a lower stat. Does not mean someone doesn't have one. In other words, if you find one let us know how it works.
