6.0 Tranny slipping!!!

Hey my tranny is slipping into 4 gear and I also notice when I shift into reverse or drive there is a hesitation before it goes into gear. I am sure that the clutchs are probably wearing out quick due to the programmer I am running on my truck, but any way has anyone rebuilt there tranny with a aftermarket kit and had good luck pushing high power? I am thinking about buying a complete unit but man tha prices are high!!! If any body has ne pointers or experience with a good rubuild kit please share, thanks.

Im not to sure about the slipping in 4th.... but mine had a similar problem with the hesitation going into reverse or drive. I posted on here before this

"I ended up taking it to the dealer and they diagnosed it as the pressure control solenoid. I think it cost around $450 for them to do it. That also included a complete trans fluid and filter change. I have all the diagrams and procedures to have done the work myself, but I didnt really have the time to attempt it. If you are pretty good at repairs you could most likely do it yourself with a friend to help. Its suprising how quickly the truck snaps into gear when shifting from park to reverse or drive now. Let me know if you need anything else. The part numbers they replaced are 4c3z7g383aa (Solenoid) and a 3c3z7z276aa (solenoid Seal)"

Well sweet, I would hope that is my problem. Do you have to pull the tranny to replace the solenoid? I can fix anything as long as I have the right tools.... Give me some more details about this. I dunno if it will fix tha slip into fourth but its worth a shot. Thanks for tha info.

No you dont have to pull the tranny to R/R the solenoid. You basically have to drain the tranny fluid and drop the pan. Let me see if I can find the diagrams I have showing the location of the solenoid you need to pull. Its honestly not a hard job at all, and it will give you an excuse to change your fluid anyways.

Out of curiosity, how many miles on truck and has tranny ever been flushed and the external filter changed? Flush every 30,000 and filter every 15,000 under normal driving conditions. Yours is not normal with your programmer.

yeah it has been flushed or change every 30K. WHich external filter are you talking about? I thought the only filter is internal, when u drop the oil pan. My tranny has 108K on it and it has been well maintained. I do not recall a external filter thou.

Ext. filter is behind the front bumper on passenger side. Looks like a small aluminum housing with hex on it. Has a toilet paper style filter that needs changing every 15,000 miles. Probably every 10,000 with your prgrammer. Sounds like yours has never been changed. Dealer doesn't do it during flush unless requested. Filter is about 45 at dealer and can be purchased on line for 20.99 + shipping.

yeah, never have changed that filter. Now that you mention it when I pulled my cab to install head studs on my block I remember looking at that now. I wonder if that is the cause of my problem? What I am worried about now is that filter being degraded and coming apart. Is this filter used for the high pressure pump on the inside of the tranny? How often do you have to replace the filter inside the tranny?

Internal filter stops trees and boulders and needs to be changed at rebuild time. The important filter is the one behind the bumper. It is very fine and protects down to the micron level. I would definitely change it ASAP and see if it isn't to late.

ok, I went to oreillys and picked up a wix filter for 22 bucks. but the weird thing is that the filter size does not reflect the housing size???? it is actually seems way smaller. And the bad thing is I pay alot of money to go get my tranny flushed and they never told me that I need to change that filter damn this sucks. I hope I have not jacked up my tranny. but any way I am going to change the filter tomorrow or actually today sense it is like 3 a.m. Hope fully this fixes my problem. I have actually paid them to drop my pan and replaced the internal filter. man these guys really want to sick it to ya and dont care if your **** ****s up.........

Nowhere in my owners manual does it say to change the external transmission filter at 15,000 miles at normal driving conditions. It specifies to change both trans fluid, and external every 30,000

Do not use the WIX! Use only OEM filters. AM filters have also caused major problems on these trannies. Motorcraft FT-145.
