6.0 Trouble Starting

Hi guys I have a question, on Sunday my 6.0 would not start at all.. My neighbor and I did a few things, we traced the lines, checked the fuel lines and pump. It still would not start. Fuel was flowing when we removed the cover to the fuel filter on top of the motor.

I released the fuel filter on top of the motor and cranked it, some fuel spilled. I then closed back up and it started immediately. My friend thinks I have an air bleed some where. I checked the o-ring and it was fine, I applied to Vaseline and re-closed it.

Today I' having more problems starting. I cycle the switch 3-5 times and it starts!

Any Ideas? Should I change the fuel filter cap? change the o-ring? although it looks good.

Another thing to note is, the oil pressure needle does come up while starting after a couple of seconds.

Thanks,

Ed

You need to get it on a scan tool and monitor the ICP and also the FICM voltage. Otherwise, we are only guessing as to what caused your problem.

So My truck was towed to the dealer and it was diagnosed with FICM and ICP sensor failure, this was after the parts were replaced under the recall, now the dealer wants me to pay for the repair again, Ford states they replaced the parts once...

thread

Read Dr Quads thread on the FICM repair. It's very interesting, and an easy fix.
I wonder what "failure" means in your case. Everything is "sensor driven", so if one is getting a false reading, or your FICM power is not at 48 volts?
The FICM has separate internals that run at only 5 volts. If it is something internal within the unit, that's a different story.
I would get it scanned, and maybe swap a unit from a reputable auto recycler to see if that solves the issue.

I wish I could, I needed my truck back ASAP! So I needed to get it fixed. I did see the thread. I'm now filing a complaint with the NHTSA.. My truck was recalled, however I never had the FICM replaced just the wiring harness and sensor which got replaced again.

I hope to get reimbursed ASAP.. Anybody else have this happen to them??

Was the harness replaced due to being chafed?
That is also a common problem with these trucks.
Did they diagnose the problem correctly? I would ask to get a copy of their techs check sheet to see what steps they followed.

Dirtracer27x

Call the Ford customer relationship center and give them you vin number.. I think this problem more common with the 6.0, specifically the 04..
