6.0 what to get fixed B4 Warranty Ends

My truck is about to turn 5 and the warranty is about to end. I am taking it in because the coolant is slowly disappearing, I think its the head gasket. What else should I try to get fixed under warranty while it is in the shop?

Thanks

Whatever else is wrong with it. Seriously, Ford is not going to fix anything that is not wrong with it, but do tell them of any problems you might have besides coolant loss. If it is the head gaskets that are being fixed it is a good idea to get head studs installed while the heads are off. The studs will be at your cost, but they should not charge you extra for the installation and are good insurance against future head gasket problems.

Have them change out the oil cooler, EGR cooler, EGR valve, flush the coolant system and add FC-9 to break down the rust. If you are loosing coolant - be careful not to go into hydro-lock. It does not sound to my that you have bad head gaskets YET because you are not smoking while YET. The oil cooler clogs and damages the EGR cooler causing it to leak coolant into the
EGR intake. Most people go right to the worst thought of bad head gasket. Is the coolant turning brown and bubbling out without the overheating yet?

Don't let the dealer say the only one part (of the above list) needs to be done. It all co-insides.

Make sure they change that oil cooler too. If the EGR cooler plugged up your oil cooler is going to be plugged up.Oil cooler supplies coolant to EGR cooler so if both don't get changed EGR cooler will fail again SOON, just after warranty expires DON"T let them tell you differant. If you abolutly have to, offer to pay for the part, No more then 400.00 for the cooler though you can get it online for 350.00. Then when you get the truck back put a coolant filter set-up on it so this doesn't happen again..get it at dieselsite.com.

HA! I knew thats why you were loosing coolant. Coolant in your oil is bad, but coolant in your oil system is really bad. You will not get the lubrication that you need to sustain the life of your engine. Eventually your oil will demulsify and you may end up wiping out a main or rod bearing.

They found the oil leak at the bedplate so out the motor comes. Seems like a good opportunity for headstuds. Will the dealer install them if I pay P&L? Does anyone have any experience with Miramar Ford?

I should change the title of the thread to:

What to do while the motor is out!!!

I don't think they go for it without doing a head gasket job also. IMO I would ask though.

I concur, there are a number of ways that this can be done. And you dont have to remove the cooler either. There is a way to actually bypass the cooler and leave it in place. Or spend alot more on a kit that you can make yourself. Thats of course if you can turn a wrench or two...........

Most dealers will not do that. It a federal and depending on where you live a state offense punishable of up to 10 grand and loss of license.
