Additives?

Trying to research additives (oil, fuel, etc.). What is a good additive? I've been looking at ZMax, Lucas, Royal Purple, RBP and others. Tell me the pros and cons of any of these.

Royal Purple's oils don't need any additives.

You don,t need any oil additive. For fuel use Stanydyne or Power Service if you think you need it.

FWIW...LUCAS OIL additive

Maybe a reason not to use? But, back in 03 after I researched/talked with Chevron about their delo. oil..found out WHY bad idea to add additives. However..

In all fairness..haven't used ANY diesel oil additve..so can't comment on pro/con's. Only know don't plan on doing.

btw..been using PSvc.DK.. grey/summer..white/winter (min# per fill up) fuel additive for long time. No real claims other than still using all OEM C94 f.i. Maybe extra lubricity has helped/maynot? Don't recall it made any noticeable diff when I first started. Maybe max. amount (cetane boost) would be noticeable? I don't know.

Thanks. I'm using Royal Purple oil. I've had problems with injectors and want to try to prevent any future problems, so I'm looking at additives for the fuel.

I have been using Stanadyne Performance Formula since day one on both my 2005 and 2007. During draining of the HFCM, I have never noticed any water in the fuel. Never had any EGR problems, any injector issues, running concerns, or any thing else that would be fuel related.

I've tried the cheap stuff from the parts store, the Ford Powerstroke fuel additive from the dealer is some good stuff. I'm not normally one to buy name brand stuff like that but the truck starts quicker and smoothed out the cold start idle. In my book it's a winner, as troublesome as these injectors are you need something in the tank.

My preference...Redline oil without additives for the engine. Stanadyne performance (double dose) every tank. I buy the little barrels and refill the 500ml-ish bottles to carry in the truck.

Blackstones come back good, though my bearing wear is always a bit high.

I use 2-stroke TCW3 oil at a 1oz per 1 gallon ratio to help with lubrication. It has made a positive difference in how the motor runs; much smoother and quieter.

Can you buy the Opti Lube XPD at any retail stores, or is it online only?
