Awesome... this is what I was looking for. I am in total agreement with the fact that these trucks are made for WORK. It is good to hear that you have well over 200,000 miles on your truck working it the way you have, and I hope you drive many more trouble free!
Highest mileage I have seen on a 6.0 is 332k late 03. Customer uses it to pull RV's out of Northern Indiana the truck rarely stops rolling. He has had 2 turbos and 4 injectors and an injector harness chaffe thru at the frame.
Nice post! The point you make about most (or many) people using a 6.0 or a 5.9 or a 6.6 diesel as a psaaenger car to drive the kids to school and pick up milk at 7-11 is not really what an expensive diesel is for. Not would they be better off with a gasser they would probably be happier. I'll go one step further and say people that are just using a 8,000 pound $50K truck for a passenger car would be better off in a CAR. 229K miles is a lot of experience with this engine.

I must take exception to this generic head in the sand statement. I do not tow very often, and I did not buy my truck with the intention of towing. I wanted a 3/4 ton truck that got good mileage. There is no gasser out there that in my opinion offers the milage, space, and seat of the pants fun that this truck does. To say I would be better off in a car is just not the case. I think you will find this is the same for a lot of powerstroke owners.

The operative words were "most or many"?

I totally agree! I drive my wife`s car once in a while, and it is all I can do to get out of that thing without falling on my butt I hate to drive any car, you can't see worth crap. I do tow, but these trucks get twice the mileage as a big block gas engine does. And they are 1,000,000 time better too drive then a car is.

240,541 miles and still gettin' it. Had a rough start problem that was traced to a bad injector and bad EGR valve. After repairs, the truck didn't make it home (2 1/2 miles) and it quit (like someone turned the key off). Found to be a bad HPOP.

The diesel engine was not designed for use in passenger vehicles.

You drove this truck hard and it still broke. The problem isn't driving habits, it is the EGR. Plenty of passenger car diesel engines out there working like champs ...
But, glad to see a truck approach 250k. That is my goal for this truck (22.8% to that goal averaging 74.5 miles per day).
