Any problems with '04 tranny's?

Just bought a 04 F250 crew short box, really like the truck! Has 14,000K and with all dealer recall services done. Now I hear from a guy down the street the trans on these goes out often. Is this true?
Also, where can I get a list of problems common to this model year to watch out for?
Thanks! Mark

Re: Any problems with '04 tranny's?

I don't think there has been a wide-spread issue regarding the transmissions. However, I have had one replaced in my 05. It had less than 2500 miles on it when it croaked. The dealer really never explained the problem to me, they just put a new one in it. From what I understood at the time, there was some sort of catastrophic internal failure. I haven't had any issues since then.

Re: Any problems with '04 tranny's?

I haven't heard of any issues. The early 05's with the snowplow package had a recall for the reverse gear snap ring, but nothing else. Are you sure your neighbor doesn't have these confused with the old E4OD trannys? Now they were a piece of junk! I know, my 97 ate 6 of them!

Re: Any problems with '04 tranny's?

That could very well be. He seemed to think it was this model year but as others have said, people without problems don't tend to post!
I really just want to get a good understanding onthings to WATCHOUT for so I can nip them in the bud. It is a 12/03 body build with a 04 plate on the engine.
Thanks!

Re: Any problems with '04 tranny's?

The only real problem that I am aware of on the 04 Xmsn was the Recall 04B24 on the Reverse planetary assy., which I had done in Jan/05. Have had no problems with it since. Not sure if it would have effected your build date though.

Re: Any problems with '04 tranny's?

I had no problems out of mine shifted fine felt good. I took it in for the recal at 10,000 miles. when I got it back it shifted a little stronger than before and at 12,000 it started to slip bad out of no where took it back in they had it for 4 days, put new clutchs in and no problems since other than it still doesent shif the same but that could have been a reflash.(17000) The dealer was decent but makes me wonder when they had the pan off to do the recall what did they mess up but it has been fine since so I think mine was a fluk. Good Luck Mark

Re: Any problems with '04 tranny's?

Have had no problems with my trans.

Just replaced the bypass filter 3 weeks ago.

I just turned 58,000 miles yesterday
