Anybody know the tricks of the cruise control on these 6.0s
everytime I set the cruise on my truck when pulling my trailer in overdrive I can set it at 65 and it drops to say 62 and then mashes the throttle to the floor to catch up 65 and then wont shift back into overdrive. If I dont use the CC I can drive in overdrive for miles and miles its really frustrating on a long trips. Thanks in advance
Re: Anybody know the tricks of the cruise control on these 6.0s
I tend to hold down the "set" button till the truck is at the speed and accelerates a bit. Then I coast down to the desired speed. It is a fairly tempermental cruise control system.

Re: Anybody know the tricks of the cruise control on these 6.0s
I find that the trick is to turn on cruise and immediatley release the gas pedal. It seems to pick up right away for me. If I slowley release the gas pedal it will slow way down until I completely release the gas pedal.
All these years and Ford cant come up with a better cruise system. They get the trophy for the worst... and it seems to get worse...

you can over ride the cruise by applying throttle when going up hills to keep it from reducing speed and downshifting... also take it out of tow haul it wont downshift as quickly...

My '98 Mustang has THE best functioning, easiest to use, cruise control I have ever used. It stays within 2 MPH of where you set it and each tap (accel or coast) = 1 mph adjustment. Doing 80 and want to go 85? Tap up 5 times quickly. I've never gotten a BMW's CC to work like it should. Anyone driven a Chevy with the magical 300 function turn signal lever. Those are a total pain to use. I don't believe Ford has the worst.
Yes the Powerstroke CC's are a bit sloppy being that it doesn't understand the turbo's boost and lag. And if your truck is chipped, forget it below 60 mph, you'll be stuck in a permanent up-down-up-down oscillation from 'over boosting' on accel.

Re: Anybody know the tricks of the cruise control on these 6.0s
my "trick" is to get to the speed I want to cruise at on a flat part of the highway ( no hills ) and hit set without my foot on the accelerator. It works better than trying to set it on a hill with your foot on the pedal.I do notice it gets lazy on hills which is a PIA! I think they could have done a better job with it. I have had hundreds of NEW fords (as a company car) and none of them seemed to have a mind of there own like this one.I don't let it bother me I am getting more use to the little quirks this truck has. I also have to remind myself from time to time that I am driving a 1 TON full size pickup truck not a 1/2 ton POS!!! or a sportscar. I think that sometimes we need to be reminded of that.

i do just the opposite..i'll get to my target speed, set the cruise, and gently ease off the pedal.
i'll be giving it fuel while the cruise is going through it's falling on it's face, where am i stage..as i'm easing off, it catches up and then it's smooth until the next hill..
Re: Anybody know the tricks of the cruise control on these 6.0s
I was having problems with the cruise on my 04 when it was new. Unlike my other Ford pickups and products the thing would decelerate downhill about 5-10 MPH and then go WOT up the hill and overshoot the setting, which drove me nuts and anyone following me. I had it reflashed and never had a problem since.
Re: Anybody know the tricks of the cruise control on these 6.0s
It seems that the big problem is that the computer in the PCM is on the edge of being over worked. It is probably too small for the job required. Look for a completely different system an the '08's.

I personally don't use cruise control while towing. I like having a bit more control over my speed.

I absolutely agree. I rarely, if ever use it at all.
I has to be something specific with a diesel motor and drive train control because I've never seen a gasser of any kind with cruise that didn't actually work well. Or I should say, recent gassers, not going back to the vacuum days...

Thats the same thing that I have done while towing with no problems. Hell, I even do that when I am not Towing and have not had any problems.
