Is the axle housing supposed to be this dry? Pictures

Hello,

Tearing down the whole front end and notice this.. is this housing suppose to be this dry ?

Should I grease it ? Thanks !

Yes it's normal. That 'seal' that you see is a dust seal. The axel seal are at the end of that tube (inside the pumpkin)

What is your truck... Just to make sure i not mistaken

Congrats, you have one that doesn't leak. There is actually an updated outer axle seal you could install now before this one starts to leak. The old style seal wasn't a very good design, and if anything got past the inner seal it would leak all over the place. The new redesigned seal (which looks nothing like the old one, so don't be surprised when you get it) solves that problem. While its apart its easy to do. I only bring it up because in my experience you put them back together and they magically start to leak.
