On the way out to the mine today I hit a rut pretty hard (wasn't there last week) left over from some heavy equipment driving where they shouldn't and now the truck pulls to the left. Need an alignment, fine. Then while trying to pull a very large generator out of a mud hole (it got to 40 degrees today so all the nice frozen roads turned to crap) my 4 wheel drive wouldn't engage. Turn the knob and the lights on the dash come on, the climate control blows out of the defrost vents (I'm guessing this is correct?) but nothing up front happens. So I get out and lock the hubs in and away I go. I crawled under the truck to check the vacuum lines but have no idea what I'm looking at or for, some help? I found one line going to each side and they looked fine, also found one that goes into the top of the front differential and what felt like a nipple for another line up there. So I pop the hood to check the little vac pump, it was vibrating along just fine, and noticed my Sinister Diesel coolant/oil by pass system had snapped in half at the alternator mounting point....... *sigh* Pull that thing off so I can drive home and on the way the darn ABS light comes on. Add all this on top of the exhaust smell that I can't locate (I've checked the Y pipe, keyhole gasket and the exhaust system) and that refuses to be consistent. Sometimes I get the smell without the climate control even on. Oh and now the rear window only moves about 2 inches before stopping.
I am slowly losing my mind on a truck that I saved for a year to buy. Dang it.
So. Any advice? *laugh* On a good note the folks over at Sinister drop shipped me a replacement mount today after a very short and extremely polite conversation.

I think your 4 wheel drive, ABS, defrost, and exhaust smell are probably all vacumm related. I don't know much about your model truck, but if you can borrow a technicians's stethescope (or get one at Harbor Freight Tools) you can probably locate a hissing noise if you trace all your vac lines.
I would look at the vaccume lines going to both front hubs for leaks, and if the ABS light is on you may have damage to the sensor line going to the same hub (vaccume line and ABS sensor wires are clipped together)
the heat controls use the same vaccume source and if there is a leak then the controls will not function correctly.

All of this could be vacuum related? It'd be awesome if I can track down the leak and fix it myself.
If not I've got an appointment to drop it off at Ford to diagnose and fix a list of things.
1) ABS light
2) 4 wheel drive not working
3) Exhaust in the cab
4) Excessive white smoke at cold start up
5) Steering wheel canted right
6) Truck pulling left
7) Tachometer reading 3000rpm at idle (started this morning)
The service tech told me they wouldn't do anything that isn't covered under my extended warranty unless I approve it. Keep your fingers crossed.
Oh and anyone have a schematic of the vacuum line routing? If so I'll try to track this stuff down myself when I have some time.
Thanks again folks!

J...no pic/diag etc. Going by ole mem.lol! Apparently both vac lines u checked were plugged in & not damaged. But, still dosen't mean u don't have vac leak. Theres a hand held vac tool used to check for leak. If it indicates leak, then it gets involved.
Don't know if any fuses involved, but I think your's has a 4X4 shift relay in eng. bay which is involved. At least manual worked. Yeah, alot going on for sure. Good luck!
I'm sure my truck differs from yours but IIRC the plastic manifold broke that carried the cruise control vac hose, and when that happened the ABS light would come on/blink....can't remember for sure, but the vac issue affected several things.
Thanks OT. I'll try and track down a vac tool or something of that nature and start looking, after I dig all the mud out from under the truck.
I got the tach thing fixed a little while ago with help from the forum so that's one thing out of the way. Will also look at all the fuses I can find to rule that out.
Was told the massive white smoke might be normal when starting at 11 degrees below zero but I'm still a tad concerned. Looked like the apartment building was on fire *laugh*.
I'll keep you folks updated on what happens with the truck.

I found the massive exhaust supply that's getting into the cab. The injector on the rear drivers side of the engine is leaking a hell of a lot of fuel. At least I think it's the injector since I can't seem to pin point where it's coming from. From under the truck I can see the fuel running down onto the exhaust manifold, from there it turns to smoke once the manifold is hot. Oh and on the way home the turbo went out, I think it did since I no longer have ANY acceleration and there is no "flutter" when I let off the throttle like there was before.
So for now the truck is sitting in the driveway while I wait till the 21st to get it in to Ford. I've already talked to the salesman about what our options are as far as them taking the truck back since this is the third turbo to go out of it and I can't drive it at all for work, where I work you can't use a sedan that's why I bought a truck.
Will keep you posted.

That sucks! have you changed to synthetic 5w40 oil yet? That may help your startups at -11 degrees! Is it plugged in when you start and have the white smoke? The bad injector may contribute to that if it leaks down into the cylinder overnight.

I've changed to Rotella 10W-40 synthetic and am running Rev-X. The oil change helped the stiction out a LOT, as in it was non-existant for a few weeks. I couldn't run the 5W-40 since there wasn't one place in town that had it when I went to change the oil. Yes this town is that small. The truck is plugged in at night.
Went out this morning to try and start the beast just praying I'd make it to work and the damn thing fired right up. Smoked a little for a few minutes as it warmed up and off I went to the job site. Didn't have one damn issue all day until right as I got home. Had a little stutter on acceleration from a stop light.
So I pulled the codes but don't really understand what they mean. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
P0113- Air Intake Temperature Circuit high output.
P0266- Cylinder #2 contribution/balance
P0284- Cylinder #8 contribution/balance
P0299- Turbo / Super Charger underboost
P0336- Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit A Range/Performance
Those were pulled with my Edge Insight CTS right when I got home today.
Thanks in advance and keep your fingers crossed.
And while crawling under the rig during my lunch hour I found that there is a little connection under the brake reservoir that is leaking (power steering) and the connections at the radiator for the transmission cooler are leaking.

An exhaust leak can Also cause the acceleration problems and lack of power etc. I though my turbo was gone on my 2004 as the truck was completely gutless but turned out to be a very hard to find exhaust leak. It was a crack on a pipe tucked close to the cab. Once it was fixed if ran like a brand new truck! Also had the exhaust smell but never completely tracked that down - think part of it might have been the wholes drilled and vents covered from my aftermarket sound system.
