Re: Bad Turbo Design for the 2006 6.0?

Got_One_Too...It seems, in principal, we agree.

With that said, I agree that the VGT in conjunction with the EGR Valve strategy is at the very least...ill conceived.

And yes, I have heard of others with failed turbos on multiple forums but, not enough to declare the VGT as a stand alone bad design.

BTW, What I stated was that "in the grand scheme of things, the 6.0 turbo issues have been very low". I did not say that the turbo was without issues. Sorry that you have had multiple issues with yours.

Re: Bad Turbo Design for the 2006 6.0?

I'm taking my truck in this week to have it checked out. I'm convinced there is something wrong, because maximum boost is at 20psi, and a new one I test drove off the lot was getting 30psi at half throttle.... and it somkes my truck off the line. Also, I filled up yesterday and calculated my mileage... 9 MPG

Re: Bad Turbo Design for the 2006 6.0?

I believe A malfunctioning VGT Actuator could cause this problem as well. If this is the case it is likely a cascading side effect of an EGR Valve that has been sticking in the open position.

Might want to have them take a look anyway...beats replacing the turbo if not required.

Good luck.

Re: Bad Turbo Design for the 2006 6.0?

I'ld have to agree with vizard on this one.

My 03 had the same problem with the VGT actuator along with the EGR valve sticking. Although it didn't make the noice you're describing it did cause my turbo to not work properly. Long story short turbo worked fine after we figured out what was going on.

Re: Bad Turbo Design for the 2006 6.0?

Hey guys,

Should I take my truck to the dealer I purchased it from, who has already installed a new turbo, or the dealer in town. I bought it from a Dealer 45 minutes away and I'll need to get a rental if I go that route, but if I take to the local dealer, I should be fine without a rental. I'm just worried that if this thing continues to give me problems and I have to look into the lemon law, will too many dealers servicing the truck have an affect on getting it bought back from Ford?

Re: Bad Turbo Design for the 2006 6.0?

personaly i would take it to another dealer closer to you. For the most part they all have master mechanics. I know a good one that won't be afraid to get dirty to resolve this issues that you're having.

Send me a pm
