Battery Drain

I have an 06 F350 with the 6.0 and for some reason lately every time it rains the batterys go dead. It only seems to happen when I am at work and I am not sure what could be causing it. I just installed a new exhaust on Monday and I am not sure if I could have bumped anything while I was doing it to cause this. The truck is still well under warrenty as it has only 2900 miles on it, but I hate dealers and there poor service. For that one reason I would like to fix it in house before letting them mess it up more. Thanks for any input.

Re: Battery Drain

Take it to the dealer. Since you believe you may of messed things up already, what makes you think more messing around will make it better?

Re: Battery Drain

Back inthe dark ages when my '91 was new I had the same problem. Turned out one of the batteries was partially shorted killing the other one.

What he said. I had the same issue on my '06 and only 6 months old. If it sat more than 24 hours, no luck getting it running without jumping it.

Wonder what kinda POS batteries they're putting in at the factory? I just had both of mine replaced under warranty @ 23K miles b/c one was bad and there have been other 6.0 owners who have had similar/same situations as well. Service writer was of the opinion that the ones they put in @ the dealership were of better quality than factory.

Mine still work but seem to be leaking slightly.

Re: Battery Drain

You guys nailed it. Bad battery. I changed it out myself just becuause I did not have time to go to Ford. I just borrowed on from another truck I should say. I guess I need to set up an appointment to get it in and have them replace it. I guess I can't blame ford on this one it is all motorcrafts fault. Thanks again for your help.

Re: Battery Drain

Their new batteries must be different. My buddy's 7.3 batteries lasted 5 years, but that it is in Kalifornia.

Re: Battery Drain

Ford recommends that both batteries be replaced at the same time to avoid differences in voltage of new and old causing one to drain the other even though both may be "good". If memory serves I think this is covered in the diesel owners manual. Ask your dealer to replace them both. They probably won't do it but they should.
