Battery Favorites

Alright, well I think it coming up on time for batteries in my truck. The truck is 5.5 years old, so the batteries have to be at least that old. I've also noticed that the cranking doesn't wind up like it used to. I had one -5 deg morning start where I couldn't plug it in, and it took me 3 sessions of cranking before it fired up, and on the 3rd one, I could hear the starter RPMs starting to fall down. Besides that, I've never gotten more than 3 years out of a battery before these... so the peace of mind factor is starting to take over. Anyway.. I'm looking at the Interstate MTP 65's. I bought, kept a few years, and sold, a motorhome with a set of these and it's probably the only one I've ever not had to touch the batteries in. I'm interested in input some of you might have on Interstate Batteries, and even some of your own, other experiences. This would be the first time I would buy new Interstate B's, and futhermore, the first time I would be buying a set of batteries for a diesel truck. Thanks guys.

I was going to say Interstate batteries when I saw the title of your post. I have installed them on large tractors, trucks and pickups. I cant say enough good things about them. The ones I used to buy when I farmed where called Interstate "Workaholics". If you had those batteries you had one less thing to worry about. I had some that where seven years old and never had a problem with them.

When its time for me to replace my stockers, I will be going with the optima, know a lot of people who have them and they never have had any problems.

Sears has a Platinum battery that, to me, is as good as the Optima and a helluva lot cheaper and, if memory serves, it's also an AGM like the Optima. If you can pick up a pair of Interstates for $220, you might as well get the stocker Motorcrafts; my dealer wants $115/battery. I still have the original batteries on mine, but I know they'll need to be replaced, probably next year.

What batteries do you have in there now? 5 years and they still work good? I'd replace them with the exact same battery if you haven't had any issues with them. why change.

However, Optima is a decent battery

Watch which battery you get? With some batteries you cannot put the plastic cover that covers the battery and PCM on the driver side.
