Bed Plate Questions

What is the bed plate and what does it do? I have a shop manual and could not fine any refrence to a bed plate. Are there any pictures of the enging showing the bed plate. The reason I ask the engine is being pulled out of my truck. Took it in last Tuesday and they told me I should get it back sometime next week. Anyone have this done on their truck? If so how did it work out for you. Did you have to pay for the new oil that went into the engine when they put it back in. They told me that Ford will not pay for new oil. So I took oil and filter to the dealer yesterday. they told me I would have to pay to have the filter put in. I call the salesmen and raise hell so now I will not be charged to have the filter put in. FORD MOTOR CO. SUCKS BIG TIME. Can you tell I'm mad. Had a Dodge truck before this one did not have any trouble with it at all. Had the truck for 10 years. At this point I don't think I will be buying any more Fords. Re: Bed Plate Questions

I think that you are full of [censored], but just in case, if your truck is under warranty, you do not have to pay for replacement oil or a filter when warranty work is done that requires dumping it.

Re: Bed Plate Questions

bedplate is lower part of block...instead of having individual main bearing caps, the bedplate is a one-piece casting that houses the main bearings (and crank) and bolts to block. No, you don't have to pay for oil and filter.

I am not kidding I was told by Holman Ford Truck Rt. 38, Maple Shade, N.J. by John the Service Rep. that I would have to pay for new oil or they would put the old oil back in. He also said that no car Manf. pays for new oil when they do service work on an engine. I asked a friend who works at a GMC dealership, he told me they put in new oil at no cost when they pull an engine. I took my own oil and filter to the dealership. If you don't belelive me call them at 1-800-446-5626 and ask for service, ask them if they supply new oil at no cost under warranty when they pull an engine. You can also ask for John or you can ask for Tom in sales and ask him. I could not belevlive it myself. I e mailed ford it is suppose to be under investigaton. Still waiting to hear back from them. Thanks for everybodys help

Re: Bed Plate Questions

I have had a rear main problem 3 times and one of the tech's took me in the back and showed me the bed plate. He told me that this is where the problem lies with the dreaded oil leak's.The bed plate gets a crack in it right above the rear main and runs down. They know that this is the problem, but they will only fix this after they get you in for 2 or 3 bull**** attemps at fixing it!!The tech showed me the seal he said there is just no way for these seals to leak they are very heavy duty and well made. Re: Bed Plate Questions

Here is the latist called Customer Relations Center at 10:00 AM talked to a Kim she told me Ford does not pay for new oil. They feel that is is a service thing not repair.

Thank you "thecleaner" that makes me feel a lot better, because I was thinking what if it happens again. I guess with the fix you are talking about there is a good chance it will be fixed for good. Did they make you pay for your oil. Or did the dealer step up and do a good thing and replace the oil. Take care.

Re: Bed Plate Questions

BlueJay,
My Ex is in for the second go round. First time engine pulled and all gaskets and sealing surfaces replaced or sealed, oil was changed but filter was not. Maybe up to the dealer. Second time, now at dealer for two and half weeks, new short block being installed. Dealer has not mentioned me paying for anything. Also both times I have been given a loaner vehicle. This time a new F150 and also dealer said they are supplying vehicle and that Ford does not pay for loaner.
Good luck

Sounds like a good dealer. I can get a free rental because of the extened warranty. Haven' done that yet. I realy don't need one I am retired and have a cycle that I ride.
Was the problem the bed plate each time or something else? Thank you for letting me know about your truck. I e mailed Ford back and thank them for fixing the leak so I did't have to go to Lemon Law, just letting them know how I feel now about Ford Motor Co. If it still leaks I will be looking into a Lemon Law. I have been told that we have a good one here in New Jersey. Hope I don't have to fine out. Take care good luck with your Ex.
