You got me beat all right. I bought mine used with 9k miles in late 2005. It stays in the garage unless I use it for hauling or just a weekly drive.

We drove a 7.3 and a 6.0 before we made a decision. We both liked the 04 much better. That trans is great. I have worked the truck pretty good towing up to 8k feet from sea level.

John, FYI, I also have a late build 04 at 88K mi. It has been the best truck I have ever owned. No problems other than an EGR Valve failure early on and the normal recalls. I also pull the EGR valve yearly and clean it whether it needs or not. Just keep clean oil, clean fuel and clean fuel filters in it. I drain the HFCM monthly to make sure the fuel is staying clean.

Local dealer has an '04 Lariat w/ 31K on it. Super clean... but the '06/07's seem to run much stronger.

Is this a good deal @ 24K ??

Also has an '07 w/ 35K for 27K..

If it were me, for $3k more I'd go for the 07.

However, everybody's opinion is not the same.

You don't have to drop the tranny pan to change the 7 to 8 qts. in it. there is a drain plug. The filter in the tranny pan stops trees and boulders and needs to be serviced only if the tranny has problems or is being rebuilt. Do change the ext. tranny filter every 10 to 15,000 miles. Engine oil is every 5,000 miles or 6 mo. whichever comes 1st. Do use Racor or Motorcraft filters only. Fram CH9549 is a repackaged Racor. Use only Mercon SP in the trans.
