Brake light on dash? Help

I have an odd issue. The brake light thats on the instrument panel ocassionallty come on and off. It can go for weeks with no issue then all of a sudden it will come on and off. If I hit the steering wheel it goes off. May sound funny but it works. I have not had the chance nor wanted nor had any idea as to where to start. I was thinking it was a connection or a relay but not sure where to look. Is there anything thats in the steering column area that would cause this to do this. I no its vibration as it will do it when hitting bumps or towing a heavy load. Not all the time but it does. Hope this is understandable. my brakes are all new and no issues with them as they function as they should. Any help would be great. This has been going on for the last 6 months or so.

Have you checked your brake fluid. If it is low, it will throw a light.

It could be as simple as the switch on the parking brake is right at the edge and vibration makes it come and go.

Or, it could be an ABS issue.

In any case, good luck.

Mike

ok, check the parking brake and all is secure. The other thing is that when this light go on and off it is beeping. It does not stay on it is like a vibration on and off. Like I said earlier if I hit the steering wheel it stops. I am still thinking its a sensor? or a loose connection>?

ok. after all this I have found that it has to be a wire thats been pinched or severed in the steering column as now my turn signals are being effected. tapping the steering wheel when this happens stops it. I have just not had the time to take apart the steering column. any thoughts?
