Im hopin to upgrade to a newer psd from my 97 7.3 this spring tryin to figure out what to do as i really want a 6.0. A customer at my work has an 03 6.0 crew cab cenntenial edition that i can get for a good price. He has babied it since he bought it 6 years ago with 17k on it. Now it only has 22k miles and the owner is very meticulous about it. It mostly sits in his heated garage with his 67 camaro. It has never seen rain since he has owned it, let alone snow. My question is would this be a good one to go for or should i stay away? I dont tow to often and when i do its usually just a car trailer or a 21 ft boat. But i wont havin a problem workin the motor on a regular basis.
If i was to get it i want to add a coolant filter and 4 inch exhaust. would it be worth the money to get a egr valve delete kit to? I would like to put on a sct x3 with innovative tunes but not till i get money to stud it.

well the 03 tend to be the most problematic, but as i understand made the most power, had the best turbo.so a truck with low miles and a good price prob would be worth picking up.id keep in mind though that 6.0s do have hg problems and should be studded at some point.the delete your talking about prob not a bad idea either.overall id probably jump on it,just remember until you dump a little money on the motor it wont be as rock solid dependable as a 7.3.not a bad truck though.....they just have a couple problems that are common with them.
now is when everyone is gonna jump me for saying theyre not as dependable as a 7.3....

Be sure to hold on to your OBS, that way when you are getting work done on the 6.0, trying to make it reliable and trustworthy for when you are out in the middle of nowhere, you can still drive a truck around.
I have 145K on my 03 and it's never had any component related to the engine or drivetrain replaced according to Oasis. Ball joints are a problem on the 03-05 and usually fail before 100K. Mine is bone stock and runs/tows great but I am in the process of replacing the oil cooler element and installing a coolant filter. It can flash heat in real hot weather towing which is the clogged oil cooler issue. I have the Garrett built EGR cooler that came on the early builds and they seem to hold up much better than the ones Ford 'made better' in later models The 03's had issues with the water pump impellers and eventually need replacement or upgrading to the newer style. All and all I guess I'm the exception to the 03 being more prone to problems but I sure hear of a lot of issues with the 04-06 also.
I would take the truck out and drive it like you stole it. Be careful of any PSD that has been babied, they don't like to be grocery getters. If the price is right and the Oasis report is clean go for it but check all the belts and hoses on a car that's been sitting a lot and get a pre-purchase inspection..
My biggest concern is the truck is out of warrenty now. cause i belive its only 5 year 100,000 mile. so i dont waan ge stuck with a lemon seeing as it is such low miles. But i know the truck and its runs so good when it acually makes it out of the garage. so i dont see why it would be a problimatic 6 liter

they are problematic by design....especially the egr sydtems,as well as oil coolers, they clog and can cause overheating,as well as there can be issues with overboosting which can lead to hg failure.that doesnt mean that every 6.0 will have this issue but its important to think of because this can be a costly repair.also 6.0 are not tuner friendly unless you have studs put in,just my .02

Have you been watching 6.0 threads like:
"Boy am I screw'bud"
"never again"
Some do not have many problems and you may luck out. Just be ready to spend the coin to make them right if there's a problem. I think they can be pretty reliable and most will agree, once certain issues have been resolved. IMO if I was gettin a 6.0 I would get the 05 or newer, they seemed to have fewer problems and they have the nice coil suspension.

Love mine at 100,000....Nothing major as of yet... but everything breaks sooner or later... I'm hoping for later... Got to do my EGR cooler hose and then I'm back to no issues... I hope she stays that way..lol With ANYTHING mechanical...it is a gamble....in my honest opinion.....Good Luck
