Alright.. this goes out to those of you who have done some major repairs to your 6.0's I can buy an 04 F350 6.0, auto, ext. cab dually for $5000. It does not run and the guy who owns it says the tranny is bad (again)
wondering what I might spend on a motor, maybe reman, or out of wrecked truck. He said FORD put it on the computer and told him all it needs is a new "brain" I assume he means PCM, i havent worked on anything newer than the 7.3 before but i think terminology is still the same.. ford says 800 for the pcm.. that would be great if thats all it needs.
i have no idea about the tranny until it runs and can drive it to see what it is doing(this is second tranny in the truck-ford warrantied the first one at 30k.. what can I expect to spend on a rebuild with descent parts.. this truck will be a work truck, no chips or anything.. mostly hauling hay and occassional gross weights up to 26000
i will do all work myself.. just wondering a ball park worst case scenario if it needs a whole motor and tranny.
I have autoenginuity software and will try to begin testing tomorrow but I dont know what it will tell me. I will certainly bring the codes back and post them if i don't understand what they mean.
sorry for the long post... what ya think? this is just the beginning...

that seems pretty cheap you could always part it out if need be. as far as tranny I have bought a couple of brand new units from ebay in the 1000.00 range.if your not afraid to get dirty go for it,I have rebuilt many a truck and personally rebuilt 6 rolled salvage 6.o s.

the engine may just need a FICM.. its never been done before,
symptoms are... hard to start when cold.. forever to warm up.. low power and almost seems as if missing
do i have to buy that from ford, or are there others out there from tuners and such?
the engine has had head gaskets done under warranty.. does this mean they are good to go? or did they use junk head bolts again.. I was under the impression that once they are fixed from factory they used better bolts.. no chip or programmer ever has been used
he said 3 egr valves and 1 egr cooler have been replaced
he also said when you pull hard with it you can smell antifreeze but cant see any anywhere? could this be egr cooler issue?
as for the tranny.. its shot... it was put in new under warranty @ 16000 miles, truck has 140,000 now... it lost reverse and wont shift out of 1st going down the road.
so my question is,, how much can i expect to pay for a rebuild... i have heard about using suncoast (or atc or something) parts and having ths tranny shop put them in... I will R&R myself..
any help is greatly apreciated

used my auto enginuity on truck today... was bi**h to get started... but does run..very poorly i might ad
pulled 8 codes from it, mostly related to chassis... abs circuit...airbag etc.
p0611(FICM performance fault) is the only code I continiously got after clearing all codes 3 times
p0269 (cylinder 3 injector circuit fault) popped up 2 times but I figured it might be related to FICM since KOER test indicated no missfires
some other tests...
ICP 850psi idle
1900 @ 2,000rpms
is that acceptable?
FICM main power while running 40v
FICM veh power while running 14v
does this seem like FICM is shot?
engine sounds horrible(erratic idle).. only slight light blue smoke on startup.. i was expecting worse
.. no power when tranny engaged in d
for the tranny.. no revers at all but does load engine when engaged
.. tries to move forward in d,3,2,1 but engine problem prevents further diagnosis
any thoughts?

If you have the time and money, I would do it. replace the FICM, check the injectors, put head studs on and machine the head(antifreeze smell) and rebuild the tranny or put a new one in. Could be one heckuva truck! They are simple once you figure out what the flaws are
FICM can be found on ebay, or Ford. It will have to be programmed to the truck though
Good luck
