Bypass install help

Next oil change I want to install a bypass filter. Has anyone here drilled/tapped the OEM oil filter cap for the necessary feed line? Any opinions if it will hold up? How about another spot to pick up a galley oil pressure feed? The billet caps look real nice till you hit the price$$$. Thanks

Re: Bypass install help

Obviously your concerned about cost otherwise you wouldn't be considering a by-pass filter. Put your mind to ease by using a billet cap, they're not that expensive and work great. No leaks and easy to change oil. Not sure I would be willing to comprimise.

Re: Bypass install help

if you look on the Amsoil site you will find bypass installation users photos, there is plenty of 6.0 installs to view.

Re: Bypass install help

I've got the Oilguard oil filler cap and oil filter cap replacement units. Very nice units, about $170 IRC for both. I use them with an Amsoil BK-11 bypass filter mount that is now on it's third vehicle.

Keep in mind with the Oilguard oil filter cap, you will have to use the OEM-type "flattop" oil filters vs. WIX/Amsoil type filters.

See the difference here: http://photos.thedieselstop.com/show...mp;thecat=3624

Wix filter on the left, OEM on the right. You have to use the one on the right or it's equivalent, otherwise you won't get oil out of the oil filter cap.

Re: Bypass install help

Thanks, Albin and others. The Amsoil site is very informative. They sell a billet filter cap that must work with their filters right? I have seen installs with the OilGuard cap that would not get pressure, maybe Amsoil had a special one made to cover both filter styles. Looks like a better idea to get the billet.

Re: Bypass install help

I don't *think* Amsoil sells the oil filter or oil filler caps. I beleive all the ones I've seen on the Amsoil site with the pics and such are Oilguard caps.

You won't be able to use Amsoil filters with the Oilguard oil filter cap.

That is not true, AMSOIL does have the caps availible. They are a blue in color. I have one if each. There filters also were redesigned to allow better flow through the cap.

You're right, I stand corrected. They must be new since they didn't have those when I installed my bypass filter a couple of months ago. Wonder if they'll work with Amsoil filters (unlike the Oilguard caps)?
