Can a E-350 6.0 work in a SD?

What are the differences between the 6.0 Powerstroke in Econoline vans and the Superduty trucks? Is it worth the headache to use a Econoline motor? I have a chance to get a motor out of an 05 Econoline and was hoping to help out a buddy who needs a motor in his 04 F-250. I figured it was a bolt in, but thought I should check. Do they use they same computer? Also what are the differences in the auto trannys? Can just the tailshaft be swapped? His truck is a 4X4. The Econoline only had 85k when rolled. What is a fair price for the motor and tranny if they can be put into the F-250?

GrampyJim tells me that the motors are essentially the same...The Econoline is rated at less HP because the E-box has a smaller charge air cooler.... The FICM will work but should be reflashed.... PCM? dunno.... You'll prolly be better off with the truck PCM and wiring harness... ICP and EBP sensor MAY need some wiring changes...

Rolled... this gives him cause for concern... the motor should stall before oil pressure is a concern... but did it hydraulic?

Transmission... he figures that the output shaft may have to be transferred.... You will have to unstack the entire transmission and restack it... some special tools required....

FWIW... one of the moderators has banned GJ for life meaning I have to post stuff for him.

If you want to use just the motor you should be OK, you should use the truck harness, computer, air intake/filter, etc... Also, depending on the 04 your buddy has the motor may look a little different and the computer will act different. The later model (fixed) 04 motors are different slightly and some o the way they determine boost, etc is different.

I cannot comment on the trans but I am sure you can find a way to make it work if you really wanted to. If you can find an new style (late 04+ with a complete truck harness, intake, etc) that would make it a lot easier.

Thanks for the help. I was just wondering about the tranny because of the low miles, prolly not worth it. Just trying to figure out cost wise if it is worth it for the motor or to look for a truck 6.0.
