Changing thermostat question

I was wondering if anyone could explain to me how to change my thermostat. I have a 03 F-250 6.0.

Also, what's the normal price. The dealership says $33 and Autozone says $13 both with the gasket.

Re: Changing thermostat question

Haven't changed a thermostat on a 6.0, but if it is like the 7.3 it is fairly simple. Drain out a couple of gallons of coolant from the radiator drain(filter and reuse or dispose of properly, a coffee filter works fine). Then remove the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing and clean. Remove old thermostat and install new one. The 7.3 has a o-ring style gasket, if the 6.0 is the same replace the gasket and put a thin bead of grey silicone sealer on the mating surface around the gasket. Replace the housing, hose and refill with coolant.

Re: Changing thermostat question

Thanks for the info. I figured it was pretty easy. Mine has the turbo pipe going over it so I guess I'll just have to take the clamp off and move that pipe.

Re: Changing thermostat question

Just make sure to clean the turbo pipe real good before re-installing it. Use some brakekleen or the likes to get all the oil off it.
