Cheapest way to theft proof 6.0?

Hi, what is the cheapest way to theft proof a 6.0? I'm not worried about serious thieve, just joyriders. I haven't even heard of someone getting their car stolen around here.

I just don't want someone taking my truck and running the egts up to 1600 and then I could get a recovered truck with no exterier damage and severe internal engine damage.

Anyway, where can I put a kill switch or something?

Thanks,
Dan.

I thought the cyclops was pretty inexpensive protection - Cyclops

You simply replace a relay with it. You have a choice of either a keyfob or a cig adapter that you plug in. You can also get a little creative - like I did and wire it to a switch in plain sight. You do have to inset the key - turn it on and then hit the switch. Becomes second nature after awhile.

Re: Cheapest way to theft proof 6.0?

I yank the starter relay out of the fuse panel when I have to park over night in strange parking lots.

Cyclops system does the same thing, but with a key fob.

Re: Cheapest way to theft proof 6.0?

My zero-cost trick to slow them down is to leave it in 4-LO, if I'm parking somewhere I'm concerned about it (rare around here.)

A look through the message boards here will show you how often people have trouble getting their trucks out of 4LO, and these are people who own the thing, and have the owner's manual! I figure a thief hasn't a chance in heck of figuring it out. And they're not going anywhere very fast in 4LO. Maybe I could even chase them down on foot if I see them...

Re: Cheapest way to theft proof 6.0?

I would also yank the FICM power relay.

Re: Cheapest way to theft proof 6.0?

Not sure if all the newer powerstrokes come standard with the PATS system. (computer chip key)

I wonder real world how hard it is to bypass the system. I'm thinking all it possibly could be is just pretty much a switch, meaning simply closing the loop with a jumper wire.

I like hitecdan's idea, simple and effective.

Re: Cheapest way to theft proof 6.0?

Excursions come with PATS, not even an option on the pickups. They should at least make it an option. I can understand why fleets would hate it, but I bet fleets don't buy many $50K Lariats! You could make it part of the higher end packages and make everyone happy.

Re: Cheapest way to theft proof 6.0?

Find the wire that runs from the brake pedal that locks the trans lever in park and put a hidden switch on it, open the circuit and you can't shift out of park. Only costs the price of the switch.

I love the .357 sig, I have in Glock 33. Too bad I can't use it protect my property here in Michigan, Texas though... that's another ball game.
