Re: Cheapest way to theft proof 6.0?

I"ve had mine about a year and love it. Any real serious thief will get the truck no matter what you do. That's what tow trucks do well.. But the joyrider will go NOWHERE if you have a Cyclops installed...

Re: Cheapest way to theft proof 6.0?

check to be sure but I think you could put a switch on the ignition harness, the plug under the column I think it is the red wire w/green stripe I just put on a diesel turbo life saver and had to splice that wire but if you get the timer it already has a theft deterant switch.

Re: Cheapest way to theft proof 6.0?

Do what I did.. Get one with a manual transmission. No one knows how to drive those things anymore!

Just kidding.

Put in a switch for the brake pedal. That will keep it in park..

I say just do what my wife did to mine. Throw some firewood at it and dent the bed sides. They usually steal the pretty vehicles, if yours is beat up a bit nobody will want it.

Re: Cheapest way to theft proof 6.0?

Here's real world proof that the Cyclops is an effective theft deterrent. Someone (I will leave the expletives out) broke into my truck during broad daylight hours at work in the middle of an open air parking lot, the truck in a plainly visible location. He/she stuck a screw driver under the door latch plate and popped open the door lock. He/she then destroyed the ignition cylinder and twisted it into the on position in an effort to start the truck to steal it. He/she was unsuccessful. While I am grateful to still have my truck, I was not happy that the repairs came out of my pocket as they were below the insurance deductible. It was also probably a blessing that I didn't catch the would be thief in action -- I fear I would have acted irrationally and perhaps be facing the prospect of a criminal indictment.

Anyhow, I would highly recommend the Cyclops. Easy to install, easy to use, and effective.

Re: Cheapest way to theft proof 6.0?

Hey, Black05, rest assured that If something like that did happen, and I was on the jury, you'd be walking out a free man, no questions asked. Nothing infuriates me more than having my house or vehicles broken into by some punk. Yes, I've had my vehicle stolen in 5 o'clock traffic from an open parking lot downtown. Yes, I've had my vehicle (same one) broken into and trashed. Yes, I've had my lake house broken into 3 times in the past 18 years. In the 1800's we used to hang cattle rustlers. I think we need to go back to that level of enforcement to send a message to these punks to go find something else to work their excess energies on. Just leave my stuff alone.

Re: Cheapest way to theft proof 6.0?

I just put my Quadzilla box / chip in my pocket. If nothing is connected, nothing works. The would be thief would just see a plug-in dangling under the dash but would never figure out what it is and would leave the truck there, unless I go to Quebec city or Montreal where a lot of the crooks have tow trucks .

Re: Cheapest way to theft proof 6.0?

Are there any good alarm systems that include items like a tilt sensor, window breakage sensor, and stuff like that? Thanks for any responses.

Re: Cheapest way to theft proof 6.0?

I have a Viper disabling device, once it's wired in it cuts ignition, fuel pump etc. and there is no way to start the vehicle without the connector which you touch to a small receiver on the dash. It's not an alarm just a disabler. All wires are black so it would take a would be thief hours to track it down and remove it. The truck won't move under it's own power.

Re: Cheapest way to theft proof 6.0?

Ok, here's a dumb question: How good is my old "Truck Club"? I heard one guy say on another site that they can be defeated in 5 seconds. I guess a pro could with the proper tools, but what about the 17YO joy rider? I'm using my old one now and I got it for my first truck 19 years ago (yikes!). Is this a waste of time? I think a pro is going to get it if they want it, and that's what insurance is for, but what about wanna-be's?

06ram610 - Why are you on this forum? No one to talk to over at the Dodge forums. well, at least your one step ahead of your fellow Dodge truck owners, you know how to use a keyboard.

Another way to make it hard for joy rides to steal your truck is to just pull the starter solenoid out of the fuse box. This trick may even work on a Dodge truck, but who cares.
