clicking flickering noises after engine shutdown...

What's going on under the hood when I shut down the truck? It makes clicking, ratcheting sounds for 5 seconds to 12-15 seconds.
I bet its normal, I just wanted to know whats going on?
The 7.3 doesn't do this.

Re: clicking flickering noises after engine shutdown...

the program in that truck has an injector cycling feature that is to help stop injector pin binding.

Newer program for 6.0 has what is called inductive heating to address the problem. Instead of cycling injector they apply power constantly and magnetic coil gets hot.

Re: clicking flickering noises after engine shutdown...

jimmy you are right the program was to cycle the oil out of the injector to aid in cold start up at the dealer we programed about 10 trucks then stopped it did not work well customer still complaned
the inductive heating worked better

Re: clicking flickering noises after engine shutdown...

According to his profile he has a 2002 7.3l. Don't think they had the injector problem. Is he talking about another truck??

Re: clicking flickering noises after engine shutdown...

When I turn my key on, mine makes a flickering noise while the wait to start light is on. Is this the injectors coils cycling?

The truck starts fine, just curious.

Thanks,
Brian

Re: clicking flickering noises after engine shutdown...

The truck i am questioning about is my brothers.
his is an 05 f-350 4x4 crewcab lariat SRW shortbed.
mine is an 02 f-250 4x4 crewcab lariat SRW shortbed.
I have the 80hp economy tune from DP tuner on my 02 7.3

I am sending off the computer on the 05 6.0 of my brothers to DP tuner to have the 80hp economy tune flashed in his computer.
we are expecting to see another 25 more MPG out a tank of fuel for his 6.0.

thanks for the info on the clicking noises.
can i ask dp tuner to eliminate the irritating clicking noises he hears after shut down when he flashes in the new progran or would that be a bad idea??
