Clunking noise when hard right turn

2005 PSD have noticed when turning to the right on a hard turn that I am getting a clunking noise in the right front. Also while sitting still and turning wheel all the way to the right will also get the same clunking. Ball joints??????

Re: Clunking noise when hard right turn

Probably some binding going on in your linkage, have someone listen while you turn the wheel to pinpoint what joint is making the sound. You could jack up the front end a few inches and stick a pry bar under each front wheel to see if there is any play in the balljoints or bearings.

Re: Clunking noise when hard right turn

How many miles are on the truck?

That sounds like the description of ball joints that are pretty much dead.

Re: Clunking noise when hard right turn

I had a similar thing happen to me. Mine was a 4x4 hub that was stuck on one side.

Re: Clunking noise when hard right turn

31,000 sounds a little early for the ball joints. I had mine done at 40,000 miles when they were wore out, it's amazing at the cost of these trucks and they wear out parts so quickly, to bad they don't install greasable ball joints directly from ford.

Re: Clunking noise when hard right turn

Mine was doing that and it ended up being my upper track bar bolt. Is your truck lifted at all? I thought it was my ball joints and changed them but it still popped when I turned. Now its all good.

Re: Clunking noise when hard right turn

No all stock nothing changed on it since the day I rolled it out. Well it goes into the shop this coming week (once again) but like I always say, I have a darn good dealership and it makes the problem just a bit more easier to cope with.

Re: Clunking noise when hard right turn

jack the truck up so the tire is off the ground, then grab under the tire and lift. I f the ball joints are bad it will be loose and clunk for you. If you replace them make sure you get the premium greasable ball joints.

Re: Clunking noise when hard right turn

Is the truck lifted? If so make sure the Track Bar bracket is torqued to 400 ft/lbs, my truck had this happen and it was this this bracket.
