I saw a nice 4x4 Ford F-550, almost new that had been converted from a dual rear wheel to a single rear wheel. I am looking for anyone having any information on this.
Re: conversion DRW to SRW Ford F-550 looking for info
Curious. Why would someone do that, I mean remove the dual rear wheels? What is to gain? Seems easier to remove the F-350 stickers from a F-350 and install F-550 stickers. Sure a lot cheaper.

Re: conversion DRW to SRW Ford F-550 looking for info
I think all you need is a new set of rims without the offset in them. Then run with wider and higher load rated tires (F's or something like that). I'm sure these tires would cost you more than running the duals, but hey, you've got money!
Re: conversion DRW to SRW Ford F-550 looking for info
If you ever drove a dual rear wheel in the winter you would know... I'm wanting the most heavy duty chassis I can get without spreading the empty weight over 4 tires on the back, thanks for the comments in any case!
Re: conversion DRW to SRW Ford F-550 looking for info
I apologize, did not mean to sound like a smart ass, enough already around here. First thought I had was why would anyone want to lower the capabilities of such a great tow vehicle by loosing two tires. Didn't think about the traction issues. I have noticed that the military heavy haulers have gone to single tires on the rear drive axles where duals use to be common. Of course those are massive tires. I am sure some company manufacturers rims for your application. I am also sure they and the tires for them will cost a bunch.

Re: conversion DRW to SRW Ford F-550 looking for info
Some fire rural districts convert their duallys to SRW because sticks, rocks and crap get caught between the tires and cause flats on duallys. The SRW helps with this, along with beter traction in dirt/mud/snow conditions.
