coolant cap relacement

Hello, 1st post. I have a 2004 f250 lariat crewcab, it has a tendency to blow coolant if I really hammer it. I found a coolant cap at autozone today that fits great and is rated at 18 psi. will it cause any problems to use this cap in hopes of decreasing coolant loss. Would this allow excessive pressure on the headgasket. Standard cap is rated at 16 psi.

Re: coolant cap relacement

If your truck is still covered under the engine (100,000 mile) warranty, I would suggest that now is the time to have any coolant loss concerns addressed properly rather than trying to mask any symptoms until you have to write the cheque...

If it blows coolant with a 16 pound cap, I can't see an extra 2 pounds making anyone happy (other than AutoZone, that is).

If you can replicate it blowing coolant, than I would put the original cap back on and get the dealer to fix it. While it is still under warranty. My dealer gives a loaner vehicle under the 36,000 mile warranty, not sure if he does on the engines 100,000 mile warranty and you'll save the $100 deductable.

Good Luck
