coolant filter

I just ordered a coolant filter system for my 04 truck, I just had the egr cooler, oil cooler, egr valve and coolant replaced in my truck about 4K miles ago, I have 92k miles on it now, should I re-flush the coolant sytem before the install? or am I O.K. with it, what is the normal filter change intervals?

Even if you flush it you'll still need to replace the filter in about a week or so of driving. Mime was full of gunk in a few days. I've heard that after the first few changes it doesn't need changing for a long time.

500, 1000, 6 months, once a year - YMMV. But each engine is different. One '04 with 45K or so with brand new egr and oil cooler and coolant flush gunked up in less than 1200 miles on it's first filter. Another '07 still have over 1500 miles on it's first filter and it's still flowing (no new egr or oil or coolant).

Install it and then monitor your flow.

Good luck.

Al

IMHO, These trucks should have had a coolant filter installed from the get go and I bet theres someone at Ford that wish they had used the money they saved on deleting (hood blankets, door lights, glove box lights, ECT) and invested it in coolant filters. That simple install would have saved them and customers buckets of money on Oil Cooler and EGR Cooler replacements.

One of the first things I added to my truck when I bought it was the Dieselsite Coolant Filter system. Since then (at 88K now) I have replaced the filter (8) times. I replace it yearly now.

I agree with Albin, just install it and replace filters as needed.

coolant filter

I flushed my system when I changed my first filter. I tested the Nitrite level of my coolant too. It was really low so I put 50% Ford Gold and 50% distilled water. Retest of my Nitrite level after 100 miles was > 1600 ppm.

You can check the 6.0 Upgrade topic for my "First Coolant Filter Fillet" for more information and some pictures.

I agree with Albin on the change intervals.

Good luck with your coolant filter install.

You can find a picture and information at dieselsite.com. That is the vendor where most members purchase the unit.
