Coolant Flow in degas bottle after Coolant filter install

How much flow should I see into the degas bottle after a coolant filter
install. Currently running a Baldwin filter on a newly installed filter sysytem
(Dieselsite kit 350 miles on filter) .When first installed the return flow
dribbled in and has now almost stopped.
New Wix filter installed and flow is now back to dribbling in.(Cap was off
to observe the flow) Thanks

The best way to check flow is to put one hand on the heater hose and one on the hose going from the filter to the degas bottle. When there is a temp. diff. the filter is plugging up.

How do you see the coolant returning from the filter? Maybe because I have a van, but the reservoir is nearly opaque.

I would assume the coolant hits the tee fitting and goes into the radiator to replace what was pulled from the heater connection. Is there some reason why it wouldn't?

BTW, It is a PITA to intall in a 6.0 van. No room under the hood to even see the heater connection and no room to route hoses, let alone mount the filter. My filter is behind the aftermarket bumper. Don't know where it would go if I had a stock bumper.

I take the cap off the degas bottle(engine running) and look there. Can't see the
amount of flow otherwise because of the color of the bottle.

Off idle the return to the bottle should be greater.

Hey MikeL46, glad to see you got that coolant filter installed...a PIA it is for sure. Our res. bottles are different than the pickups and appear to be multi-chambered so you can't look inside with the cap off and see any coolant flow back in. On one occasion, I was able to see coolant flow back into the bottle b/c I could just barely see it running down the inside of the bottle by looking from the outside. I would just grab the return line hose and make sure it's hot.

BTW, I've changed out my first filter (after about 700 miles) and poured what I could from the old filter into a clear plastic bottle. There was a bunch of "stuff" (looks like sand) that settled at the bottom of the bottle. I'm going to cut open the filter at some point.

Good job dude.
