Okay here is my newest problem. I have an 04 6.0L with 165K miles.
I just got it back from Ford for some issues but they informed me that my cooling fan wires had somehow got into the fan and stripped them beyound repair. No biggy I brought the truck home and got a new fan for it, I installed it and now the fan runs all the time. Sometime even when I first start it up. I have noticed when my AC is off the fan does not come on though.
I just replace the thermastat thinking maybe that but didnt fix my problem. Has anyone else had this problem mainly when the AC is running. I can unplug the fan and the truck never runs hot even in 90 degree weather here in FL.
This is really starting to piss me off and I am tired of having no power off the line cause the fan is engaged.
Had a similar problem with my 07. Just got it back they found the AC was blocked and it was causing the compressor to run too much creating excess heat in the AC system. This excess heat will cause the fan to turn on. On the bad side it cost a lot of $ to replace all the AC stuff and then yesterday I heard the stupid fan on again, didn't hear it today, so I'm not sure if we have this fixed yet or not.

I am thinking it is the AC with mine too. I didn't run the Ac at all today and my fan never came on. But if the truck has been sitting for days I can crank it, turn the AC on and even before the truck warms up the clutch fan is engaged ROARING like crazy....... Everything happened with my truck at once. It completely diesd on me so I towed it into Bartow Ford.
Long story short the neutral switch in the tranny shorted and cause my whole fusebox to short out too. After almost $1500 I have this continuously running fan. Bad enough I got mud grapplers on it (they are loud enough without the fan noise too)LOL.
Anyway thanks for the info and if the AC problem didn't correct it please post what else they had to do if you would.
Thanks in advance for the help. I flushed the radiator today just to make sure no junk was in it and nothing any different. All I can say is PLEASE cold weather come on so I dont have to use the AC and the roaring will go away LOL
Tech at dealer is on course this week (hopefully learning how to fix my truck)
When he gets back next week I'll be contacting him about the fan clutch still being on, if it turns out to be something else I;ll let you know.
New to this forum, and having similar symptoms - did you ever find out what was causing the fan to stay on? Was it the A/C? If so, what specifically was replaced? Thanks!!
Our fans are electric over manual so all I honestly did was unplug the electrical plug on top of the radiator shroud. It runs just fine with the ac on and doesn't have the roar noise however if the truck gets up to high temps then it manually engages the fan so a win win for me.
I had all ac lines, compressor etc checked and they said they were fine. A lot had the fan clutch checked and it checked out fine so I am lost. It might not be the right way however after unplugging that part (6 months ago in florida weather) I have had no problems. Ac is cool and if the truck ever gets to temp the fan clutch still engages. Good luck man on finding out the problem.
Do you know what your temperatures are, engine coolant, engine oil (and not by what the factory dash gauge reads). It's possible that you are overheating in one of these temperatures and the fan is coming on as it should.

Keep in mind that if the truck sits for a while (overnight or longer), you'll get "morning sickness" -- it'll be engaged for a bit until it has a chance to spin out the fluid back to the reservoir.
As far as it being on when the AC is on, it reacts to AC head pressure, so if something is blocked up in the AC system, or it's stinking hot ambient-wise, the fan will be engaged at low vehicle speeds (below 40-45 mph), more so that it normally would be with just the AC load.
It could also be that the service part fan drive you installed is one of the ones intended for snowplow use with a higher disengaged speed than the "normal" one.
