I kind of tend to believe Fordboy. He has been right on the money with everything I've posted. I would at least do what you can to verify the info first before doing a bunch of work that might not be necessary. Good luck no matter what you decide.

Great pictures, but I had to go full scale in order to see what your talking about. While they do look like cracks, and may be, they also look like parting lines if those are stamped forged parts. It would be best to tell if they were out of the motor and dry of oil.
You've got an experienced Ford tech here who has stated they are not cracks and he has seen them before. If that was my truck, before I had a tech go and tear into the motor to change them out I would do a couple of things. One is to try to take a look at a couple of new parts as was mentioned earlier. Second I would have the parts manager look up how frequent those parts are sold by the dealer as well as the regional distribution warehouse. I might also check with a local IH dealership to see how often they see a failure. And worst case, I would get an FSE to look at the parts and make the call.
No one would be pulling my cab and tearing into my motor on such a questionable determination. If you have 8 of them cracked on one motor, then there would be a high amount of failures in the field.

Fordboy,
I owe you a big "Thank You" and round of drinks! I just left Koons Ford, after taking your advice, and you are 100% correct. "This is how they are made" and even upclose, the damn things (the new ones) look broken. Fortunately, nothing has been done to my truck yet, so thats great!! I showed the new ones to my Tech and he couldn't believe his eyes and was extremely apologetic and embarrassed. Even the Parts guy's at Koons couldn't believe that this is, indeed, how they're made. So as not to place any undo "blame", if you will, Koons is not working on my truck. They just happened to be the closest dealer for me to look at the part.
Thanks again!!
Here are the pics. And these are NEW! (Sorry for the quality or lack thereof)
Cool i am happy for you. On to the next problem... :-)
You know, for what it's worth, the only problem I have had with this truck besides the oil pressure issue that caused the hard starting when warm, which led to this "wild goose chase" was the typical EGR stuff and that was taken care of under warranty. It has been very good to me, but I have been very good to it, too.
Very cool. Yep, mine looked the same way when I did my head gaskets. I took the valve bridges up to the IH dealer and they said the same things as Fordboy.
Glad you didn't go through the hassle of having them replaced.
