Unhappy Creeking when steering, horrid sound!

There is a horrible creeking/whining sound when I turn my steering wheel in either direction. The sound is coming from the steering box I believe. Is there something inside that needs to be lubricated because thats exactly what it sounds like. Could the steering box just be bad, the truck only has 46K on it and does not go off road.

I would lean more towards a Bad Ball Joint. They will make the exact sound you describe. These tks are classic for that problem. One of them is probabley siezeing up.

find all you zirc fittings under the front end of you truck and pump them full of grease. Mine was doing this same exact thing, i though it was the worm gear in the steering box, but i greased it all up and i still have had no trouble

It could be something in the steering linkage. Check your ball joints, tie rod ends any bushings etc. These heavy trucks are put under a lot of force
turning.

I'd put money on ball joints too. Good time to replace them and the u-joints (if it's a 4x4) with greaseable stuff.

Thanks for the replies! After talking with a friend of mine I was told that if I continue to drive with bad ball joints they will eventually freeze up causing the steering system to lock in place. Sounds wonderful, so I better bring the truck in asap. I have a feeling the bill is going to hurt

Take it to a private front end shop and get a/m greasable joints that will last a lot longer if you keep grease in them.
