dealer work now my truck has a pump running when I turn it off!!??

Hey guys I had an injector go out and they replaced it for me at the dealer now when I shut the truck off it sounds like a fuel pump or something running for about 10 seconds or so?? Is this part of a new reflash or something? Thanks

Nick

I believe it's part of the new flash that cleans the spool valve after shutdown

Re: dealer work now my truck has a pump running when I turn it off!!??

Yep, all 8 injectors actuate for a while after shutdown, as a fix for the cold weather stiction problem with the thick oil. I liken it to a wet dog shaking...which removes most of the oil while it's still warm and thin.

Mine goes in for this next week.

And my customers report that the new FICM strategy works well. You will get used to the sound but you should thank your service adviser for not informing you of this shut down operation. At the very least they should have left a copy of the customer information sheet on the seat for you to read. Scan through the recent threads and you will find several topics covering this.

Yea.. they should have told you about it. It annoyed the living sh*t out of me the first few days, but you will get use to it. Even more annoying is when other people hear it and ask you "what the hell is that noise"

Is this strategy supposed to apply to all 6.0 trucks or just some model years? I don't recall getting a notice on it.

Re: dealer work now my truck has a pump running when I turn it off!!??

First and foremost... it is not a recall... nobody gets a notice in the mail or elsewhere....

Yes, ALL 6.0s are affected by this new strategy..

One would hope that service advisors care about their jobs enough to stay on top of new developments... there is an infornation sheet that is supposed to be printed off and, as the SA is handing the sheet to the customer, they should be explaining the changes in clear language....

We can talk about how crappy Ford is.... we can talk about how crappy the dealer is.... but it all boils down to people much like you and me.... We can be proud and knowledgeable..... or we can do just enough to stay employed....

Re: dealer work now my truck has a pump running when I turn it off!!??

Jim, My SA and I have an agreement that I will let him know when this FICM strategy is installed in a customer's vehicle when I review the completed job with him. He is to notify and explain this to the customer. (to the best of his ability) I place the customer information sheet on the front seat or dash when I am performing the reflash. One way or another the customer gets the information. I am even considering re-writing the notice to include a little more information and a better description because diesel owners are special. They usually want to know "how, what and why." Gotta respect that! Perhaps I should be bantering this topic elsewhere...

Re: dealer work now my truck has a pump running when I turn it off!!??

So I have been reading on here about this flash, but got to ask for sure.
I can get this flash and it wont change the running of my truck? I still have the 04 motor flash with quite idle and like it and runs good.
But this will help with morning romps but let it run like it does now?

Thanks

This is why i refuse to take mine in for anything. I could take it in for a chattering wiper blade and get it back with reflashes, various recalls, extra parts, etc....just no telling. I hope i dont HAVE to take it in for something serious like a injector....they really have you by the ----.

Re: dealer work now my truck has a pump running when I turn it off!!??

I am with you Aggie. My 02 has only been in a couple times, mostly because any time it went in, it was "we didnt see it" or "thats normal"

Now I just fix myself. One good thing is if you find a Ford med/heavy duty truck dealer, their techs are usually quite a bit better

In my case, they used to warranty parts for my own install.

Re: dealer work now my truck has a pump running when I turn it off!!??

In defense of the dealer I told them I would be waiting in my trailer out back of their shop, so they were probably rushing around trying to get me back on the road. In fact the Tech even drove the truck out to us and backed under the trailer for me. He then told me to go inside and get paper work and that wasnt ready yet so they were rushing around again and some other person other than the SA did the paper work for me because they were too busy right then. No excuse I know but I just appreciate they put me in front of everybody.

Recently had four injectors replaced and they did not flash it. Does this flash help prevent the numerous failed injectors we're seeing?

Re: dealer work now my truck has a pump running when I turn it off!!??

I cant compare "ficm reflash only" because I recently got reflashed (1st time) with 2 old recal. including newest ficm reflash talked about. I assume (for me) its a RC (running change) that was included with latest/newest recal. updates.

Point is..dont know if just new ficm update or older recal. updates fixed my smokin/rompin (cold start/warm/hot intermittant) & jerky/hesitation w/tranny P-R/R-D, but currently not doing this. No major drop in power. Rest is old news..no p.i./t-h mode 2nd dshift softer. etc.

btw..SA did tell me about ficm update/tickin sound. Remembering its just a machine still HAPPY TURKEY DAY TO YOU/YOUR'S & All!

Grampy,

What conditions/symptoms would trigger a dealer into installing this latest calibration (reflash)?
