Re: dealer work now my truck has a pump running when I turn it off!!??
If you have a cold start problem..e.misfire or rough running this ficm update may apply. It should be covered under 3/36 or 5/100K.JMO!
Its suppose to help under conditions mentioned. f.i. spool valve cycles after shutdown. Suppose to help purge hot oil so no cold oil sticking on f.i. on next start up.
Call dealer/SA & ask. RC (running change) that is now included in any recal.update. In otherwords, currently if one gets a reflash for what ever reason, you'll also get the new ficm recal. No ill effects best I can tell.
Re: dealer work now my truck has a pump running when I turn it off!!??
In the past, we have had a lot of communication problems between the desk and the bay (something nearly every shop I have ever seen has had). Since my demotion (errrr.... I meant PROmotion) I try to spend time getting that "fixed".... talk about a tough project....
Time permitting, I involve myself in the customer "booking" process and try to direct the SAs questions in a direction that will help the troops and I try to make sure that any repairs are put into the right "follow up" mode... especially when we deal with intermittents or things like the new FICM strategy. I don't like springing "surprises" on my customers. Made harder since three of us are diesel techs in our shop and, amongst my other duties, I can't know everything that is happening at all times.
Still, too much slips through the cracks for my liking.... None of our management staff has a particularly high thresh-hold for "pain" and customer satisfaction is the easy route out... The key, IMHO, is educating the staff... educated staff can educate the consumer....
The 6.0 would be viewed in a much different light if it weren't for the involvement of so many "lack-lustre techs" and "lack-lustre SAs". These engines can be tough to fix - as you well know. How many times have you had to exercise ALL of your abilities to find a "niggling" concern that other shops try to pass off as "normal"?
Too many guys are more interested in what happens on payday than they are in improving their knowledge and abilities.... We are treated to a constant barrage of rear main seal leaks on these forums.... What have you seen? What have I seen? Am I so stupid I don't know an RMS leak when I don't see one?
It's hard not to sound elitist when I say that "Joe Average" isn't going to be a good 6.0 tech.... There's enough shops that throw parts at 7.3s to prove that the added complexity of the 6.0 is beyond a lot of talents.
Last night, my loving bride and I went to a "good" pizza/pasta restaurant.... part of a large chain and, in the past, always delivered a palatable (if not excellent) product.... Pizza dough comes in a pail.... this much dough mix - that much water - do this then do that. Sauce comes in a pail... this much sauce.... toppings much the same.... A lack-lustre employee managed to take a foolproof recipe and turn it into a plate full of crap (FWIW, it was a beef, onion and mushroom with extra sauce... how do you screw THAT up???).
Like the "professional" truck driver that fills your mirror with grille, ambulance chasing lawyers and tire shops that can destroy a thousand dollars worth of TPMS monitors in a single tire sale... too much depends on people, from all walks of life, doing just enough to stay employed....
Ahhhh.... just what we needed..... more ramblings from a senior citizen....
Re: dealer work now my truck has a pump running when I turn it off!!??
Diesel techs please don't take offense but I have my two cents to add. I brought my truck in for service for 06E17 the other day along with an oil leak and a transmission service. I specifically made the appointment to have the tranny FLUSHED and filter changed. I also reiterated this at time of drop off. I picked it up the next day and asked for the bill. It came to 142 and change. I knew this was wrong.
A. They didn't find the oil leak
B. They didn't do the flush, only the filter. Tried to bill me for the oil they put in, when they knew well that I was coming back for a flush that they were supposed to do in the first place. I told them I was no paying for 7 quarts of fluid twice.
C. Before I left I asked them specifically if there was anything I should know about the recall and programming performed. I was told no, the truck would be exactly as it was when I dropped it off. Well you can imagine my surprise when I heard the injectors clean themselves for the first time.
So here is my question:
Who and how do I complain to about such poor service? To me, this is unacceptable for them having my truck for more than 30 hours and not even doing the work specifically asked and the lack of communication on their part. Now I have to go back and have them finish the tranny service and wait this time for them to finish.

1st..Complain to Svc.Mgr. If not satisfied...
2nd..Find out who's next in chain of command, including Owner. Still not satisfied.
3rd..FWIW..Complain to FMC CR person. # in your o.g. book. CR call's dealer. Dealer/rep. suppose to call you & it starts all over again. That happened to me.

Shut up Jim.
Jim, My SA's sare not technicians, never were and they have about as much technical understanding as my 5 year old daughter. I don't mean that as an insult, its just the reality of the situation and I am sure that there are many service departments that suffer from a similar situation. Bless them as they do try to listen and convey what we tell them to the customers but as soon as the conversation strays from what is written on the back of the RO due to questions... anything is possible and it is sometimes scary.
The best thing to do as a diesel owner is attempt to get to know your diesel technician or team. I do have my SA advising diesel owners of the new FICM strategy but I also leave a copy of the customer information sheet on the seat to ensure they are informed. I swear I have written this before... am I rambling?

how much $ did/does the flash cost normally?
[/ QUOTE ]
I was charged one hour of labor for the FICM reflash, which is $90.90 in my neck of the woods. That being less than the $100 deductible, I paid exactly $90.90 because that's all I was having done. (and I'm at 77K miles.)
