I had my truck at the dealer ship 2 weeks ago to have the oil changed. I was also getting a water in fuel alarm. They fixed that too. So they tell me that the oil change, fuel filter change, and the sensor replacement is $285.00. They said that the fuel filters have not been changed since 15K miles. (currently 66K miles) That was why the sensor went bad. So that cost $100 for the warrenty claim. Now since the same dealership has always serviced my truck they should have changed to filters at the right time. So they expect me to pay for their screw ups? Please tell me if I am wrong.

That sound shady to me. I doubt the sensor went bad. They were able to make a warranty claim by replacing the sensor. I suppose you had a 100 deductible?
Yes, this is the way service depts operate. You might have needed the sensor but I doubt a fuel filter in for 60k made the sensor go bad. My Dodge Ram 3500 had the same fuel filter until I changed it at 90k. (I know I'm a bad boy)
Service advisors in dealerships are rated on there ability to lie to customers. The longer the nose the better the advisor.

If it has spark plugs or less than 8 lugs, it is not a truck.
If this is true about 50,000 miles on the filters, your lucky it didn't damage injectors. I would go back and demand why they neglected to service the filters every 15,000 miles. How about your transmission? has it been serviced with external filter changes twice since you bought the truck. I think its time to find another Ford dealer. P.S. $285 for a oil change, fuel filter change, and WIF sensor changed is a reasonable price.

The deductible is the deductible.....
In the intervening time, did you specifically request that the filters be changed or ask for a maintenance schedule that specifically included fuel filter replacement? Replacing fuel filters is a maintenance cost that is borne by the vehicle owner... we cannot unilaterally replace these filters without your expressed request.
As the vehicles owner, it is your responsibility to ensure that proper maintenance is performed...
For the vultures.... you guys cry when the dealer suggests factory scheduled maintenance operations calling them 'unnecessary'... and now you cry because the dealer didn't suggest factory scheduled maintenance operations?
It has to be one or the other.... and, at some point in our lives, we need to share in the responsibility of our decisions....

Pay for their screw up's ? Its is YOUR responsibility as the owner to keep up with the scheduled maintenance of your truck. When I take my 20ft Champion with its 225 Optimax to the dealer for its service I ALWAYS inquire as to what is needed for the hours on the outboard. It is no different on your truck. If you read the maintenance schedule supplied with the vechicle, You would have seen that the fuel filters need replacing every 15k. While it may seem expensive to those who dont have the knowledge or ability to do the filters themselves, It is imperative none the less. I would be glad the dealer gave me the benefit of having my service done at their shop instead of charging me for the repair due to lack of maintenance. You have invested alot of money in your truck as well as your boat so its always pays to edcuate yourself on doing wahtever you can to keep them running properly.
hmmm, where are the fuel filters on an 03 F250 6.0 (that's coming home Thursday, I hope)?
They come in pairs: the larger of them is on the driver's side frame rail on the HFCM (takes the same size socket as the oil filter) the other is under the smaller, removable plastic cover atop the engine by the oil filter cover. The frame mounted one can be messy to change as it will leak fuel down your arm as you screw off the cap. All in all, pretty easy to do yourself. Make sure to use Motorcraft filters as some after-market filters are not up to factory standards.

You hadn't changed the fuel filters for 51,000 miles? Wow! The dealer did you a favor by warrantying your HFCM. It is your responsibility to know and follow the maintance schedule. Maintance is not free unless you paid for some kind of aftermarket maintance package when you bought the truck. Sorry to say but expect some injectors to take a crap before winter. There had to be a major restriction through the HFCM, plus all of the water and debris that built up in the HFCM. Wether or not it's warranty, who knows. I know probably 8 out of 10 dealers would have made notes everywhere so when your truck shows up for a warranty repair, when they write the truck up they see there was a lack of maintance and vehicle abuse. Sounds like they are taking care of you. Stop complaining!

I often change mine before the 15k mile mark, I can tell they start getting plugged because my pyro wont bury as quick as it does with clean filters in there...
I understand and agree that you as the customer should know your maintenance schedule, but he's having ALL his maintenance done at a dealer as professionals that work on these trucks they should also know the maintenance needed for the mileage interval. Not just do an oil change everytime a customer comes in for service.

While I also agree that is the owners responsibility, I also think that the dealer should at least suggest the maintenance that needs to be done at the required intervals. If you choose not to, so be it. It's your baby. But if the dealer doesn't even suggest that it needs to be done, I can see your point.
You wouldn't go to the dentist for a 6 month cleaning and be told you needed a root canal because he didn't tell you you had a cavity a year ago???
I live in Tempe, a suburb of Phoenix. I take my truck to Jones Ford in Casa Grande, approx 50 south of my home. The service writer, Eric, has always treated me fairly. I call, make an appt., and get it there when I say I will. I tell him how many miles it has and to take care of it. He follows the maintenence schedule that is recommended. Every 5k, it gets serviced.
There are those who say I am wasting money or getting ripped off by the "stealership". This is the third truck I have bought from them. The treatment is no different than the way I was treated when I bought my first truck. Terry Behrens has always been fair with me and with those I have recommended to Jones Ford for a vehicle.
