6.0L Power Stroke Engine and DrivetrainDiscussion of the 6.0L Power Stroke diesel engine and drivetrain in the 2003-Up Super Duties and Excursions. No gas engine discussion allowed except on transmissions and drivetrain that pertain to all models. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 6.0L Power Stroke engine.
If you are talking about the Ford/Motorcraft additive the dealer is wrong. The additives were refomulated and can be used in both the 6.0L and 6.4L. Check out the link below...
That's a good topic. I live in Northern Ohio and was once told that in the winter months diesel around here has more sulfer in it. Should I add some type of gas treatment like redline or motorcraft to each fueling?

I don't know how or why it would have more Sulfur in it, but I do use an additive for its anti-gel properties and water removal ability. I happen to use Stanadyne Performance Formula, which was recommended by Ford until they started marketing their own.

I do. I carry a couple of "lab" 8 oz plastic bottles with me. I try to add it at about 4 oz. per 20 gallons. I don't even know if it does anything, but I have never had any gelling or water issues. Beings how I add it almost all the time, I don't know how to tell if there is any difference without it. It may be snake oil, but it makes ME feel good, and as far as I am concerned, that's what it's all about.
Supposedly, it works all kinds of miracles with Cetane, lubricity, and a host of other things. I buy it at a local distributor that buys it in 50 gallon barrels, then re-fills my original Stanadyne jug. It runs a LOT cheaper that way. Stanadyne's web site has a way to look up your local authorized dealers.

I would find a new dealer because they are blowing smoke where the sun doesn't shine. I buy mine from http://www.powerstrokeshop.com and it says it is for all diesel and ULSD compliant.

I don't think it's snake oil at all. I'll go through periods (when I have some actual extra money) and use either Stanadyne or the Diesel Power from wallyworld.
My engine is definitely quieter using both of the products, but I actually get a little mileage improvement with the Stanadyne. I like it because it seems to quiet down and just run smoother overall.

I used Stanadyne Performance formula for a year or so, but I switched to Power Service DK after that because it's a little cheaper and easier to find where I'm at. Can't really tell much difference between them, performance wise, but the dang Power Service bottle always spills down the side when pouring. Getting tired of that so I think I'm going to try Ford's product. Anybody know how much cetane boost Ford's stuff provides?
Stanadyne all the time...(and a little Marvel Mystery Oil)

They are partially correct.
Here's a little tidbit of info for you about Motorcraft diesel additives....
There are 3 flavors: (used to be only 2, Red or Blue caps)
PM-17-A ((Red cap) Cetane booster and performance improver for 6.9 7.3 & 6.0 engines (soon to be discontinued)
PM-22-A (Red cap) ULSD compliant Cetane booster and performance improver for 6.4L PSD (backward compatible as well, and will replace the 17-A in the near future)
PM-18-A (Blue cap) Anti Gel and Performance Improver (cold weather additive) ULSD compliant and compatible with all Ford diesels 6.9 - 6.4
I was so impressed I added Opti-Lube to my line and web site. I already carry PRI-D (it was not part of the test).
I just made a 2200 mi trip to Oregon and back and best tank mileage was 17.6 (worst was 16.3) using the Opti-Lube Summer blend and PRI-D. We were pushing it and running when possible 85-95 mph. Next trip I will try the XPD blend (the second best in the test).
I have two customers who have stopped using the other additives and are using PRI-D and Opti-Lube at each fill-up. Both of these guys were mixing Diesel Kleen, Stanadyn, Red Line and Marvel Oil and using their concoction at each fill-up.
By the way, the Opti-Lube XPD sale ended 0ct 15.

I run opti-lube summer formula, it's cheap and only takes a few ounces per tank. I was impressed enough w/ the study that I bought the summer, winter and XPD formulas. So far so good.
