Re: Diesel Additive

Just ordered a gal of OPTI LUBE Summer. They gave me free qt of the XPD to use this winter on a few long trips I plan. Does not get cold enough here in TN for winter blend. The company recommends using 1oz per 10gal for a better lube but would be just fine with 1oz to 20g. Still should be cost effective. I have been using the cheaper PowerService product from Walmart. I wanted a product that would help with the water removal problem I have.

Re: Diesel Additive

We use Stanadyne in our shop trucks every time we fill up. The bosses 2000 F-350 7.3 has 355,000 miles on it, still has the original injectors, and starts and runs fine. No smoke, or problems in the winter either. I did a little experiment with it on a little 2 cylinder air cooled Ruggerini (Italian made) diesel in a portable pressure washer. It has a 2 gallon fuel tank on it and the cust dropped it off with a crank no start condition. I found the fuel tank to have about a gallon of water and crap in it, and the filter (which had a steel mesh around it) was rusted solid. I cleaned the tank out and installed a new filter, put in 1 gallon of fresh diesel, set the valves and was able to get it running. After about 1 and 1/2 hours or so it was still not running too well, (heavy white fuel smoke, and the front cylinder was not firing all the time). To make a long story short I added enough Stanadyne to treat 15 gallons, and within 20 seconds the engine was running like new. Starts and runs fine now, no smoke at all. I don't normally play mechanic in a bottle, and as usual the customer didn't want to spend any money but I do know it freed the pumps and injectors on that engine. Personally I have always used Powerservice on my own truck.

This is very good information, thanks for posting. It is interesting that the best additive according to this test is a little biodiesel, yet Ford does not recommend biodiesel in any of their products. Bummer.

Re: Diesel Additive

Diesel Kleen and 2 cycle oil. Best of two worlds. I would of never banked on 2 cycle oil. Better running, Cleaner EGR valve, less soot in tail pipe. Truck loves it. 15k so far on test. 32k
on the clock.

Re: Diesel Additive

been using both the ford anti gel and cetane booster since I bought the truck. Since I use it religously since I bought the truck back in FEB. I can't tell you what its like without it.
but like montanafan says above , it makes me feel like I am giving my fuel system the best chance it can have to keep feeding the diesel better fuel that won't gell in the cold.
go figure.

According the the MSDS for Sea Foam, it has 10-20% IPA, which I believe is isopropyl alcohol. I believe it's bad to put alcohol in these trucks. (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Re: Diesel Additive

It made me think of the old snake oil ads; it cures anything.

Guess PT Barnum would love me
