Diesel "whistle turbo sound" - how do I add it?

I was at a parking lot and heard a diesel with an after market whistle sound which sort of sounded like an amplified turbo spool-up sound. It sounded like it was added to the exhaust system. Thanks

The sound can be made louder by going with an aftermarket exhaust.

good luck,
mark

Re: Diesel "whistle turbo sound" - how do I add it?

The very early '03's like mine had much more whistle by design of the number of vanes in the turbo. Plus the fact that these early one's had removeable silencer rings. Both of these factors along with a larger exhaust make for lots of whistle not acheivable by the later trucks. You can swap in an early turbo in your later trucks for that same whistle.

You've been around since 2000 and you still don't have any info on your truck in your sig or profile?

I'm guessing you don't have a 6.0? Even with a 7.3 you'll hear the turbo.

My truck seemed to have gotten louder after I installed my Airaid Intake system.

Re: Diesel "whistle turbo sound" - how do I add it?

In between the down pipe and cat their is a resonator chamber to dampen turbo noise. It looks like a little bulge in the exhaust tubing, just underneath the passenger side floor board. Take that thing off and you can piss off your neighbors for 3 or 4 blocks.

Re: Diesel "whistle turbo sound" - how do I add it?

Air intake a little difference in turbo sound; just barley audiable inside cab. Programmer and turbo back exhuast and deer scatter by the hundreds in every direction !
