Do '05s get the romps?

Sometimes my truck will develop a rough idle while I'm sitting at a red light or in my driveway. It actually shakes the truck a little bit and it changes the sound. Is this "romping" or could it be something else? Maybe an EGR valve issue? I'm changing my fuel filters today to see if it helps. Thanks.

Re: Do '05s get the romps?

Ford doesn't like longhorn fans. That's why your truck is running like that . Anyway, I honestly haven't heard of an '05 w/a lot of romping issues as compared to the '03's and '04's. If I was a betting man, I would say it is either your EBP sensor, EGR, or both. Best of luck.

Re: Do '05s get the romps?

My 05 does occasionally on a warm start. It is almost imperceptable, but having owned an 03 I know what the romps are.

Re: Do '05s get the romps?

Make sure your oil is not overfull, run it, wait 20min. and check it on good level ground... Too much oil will make em romp, or very used oil that no longer has any of the anti foam stuff left.

Re: Do '05s get the romps?

I believe the 05's have a completely different designed HPOP, which I believe is the source of the romps... even all the way back to the 7.3's.

Re: Do '05s get the romps?

My 05 is surging at part throttle acceleration and cruising speeds. The idle is irratic and pulls the truck forward occassionaly. I unplugged the EGR and it still does it but no black smoke now.
