Do I need to run ULSD in my 07?

Hey everyone! Well, we picked up an 07 6.0 last week, and I was just wondering if I HAVE to run ULSD in it. I know that you do on the 08, but I was just wondering since it was the 6.0 I'm just asking, because I dont know what the local station uses because I havent had time to find out. Also Is there any advantage to using it, atleast untill everybody switches over.

Thanks
Mike

No, you don't HAVE to run it. However, finding places that don't sell it is becoming much more difficult. I personally have been running it in my 05 for the last year at least. I have seen quite a few people on here say that they run additives to increase the cetane (sp?) rating. I haven’t run additives on a regular basis, but I have run it occasionally.

Re: Do I need to run ULSD in my 07?

Just like Res said, you don't have to use it, but Low Sulpher diesel is getting harder to find. In actuality, the cetane number in the new Ultra Low Sulpher diesel is HIGHER, but it has less lubricating properties than the old low sulpher diesel, hence more people using addatives!

Re: Do I need to run ULSD in my 07?

It's like the farmboy said, ULSD has a higher Cetane number than LSD did, something on the order of 3-5 points. Don't worry about the Cetane, but lubricity may be another issue. I use Stanadyne Performance Formula in every tankful. I know the feds require a certain amount of lubricity added to the fuel at the refinery, but I don't trust my original C-94s to the feds or to the refinery. I know that the refinery I just retired from does add the required lubricant to the fuel. I just don't know if it's enough. They think it is.
