That dreaded clicking noise

Murphy must like hanging around me lately....last night the water main next to my house blew at about 8:30, so a trip to Home Depot and 2 hours later that was fixed, but I had to wait until 12:30 AM to take my shower, because the PVC cement needed to cure.

This morning, I'm running late and the kids and I get in the truck so I can take them to school........click click click click click (you get the idea). Thank God our next door neighbor was just about to leave for work, so she came over with her Suburban and we hooked up the jumper cables. It took about ten minutes for the truck to have enough juice to get the beast started.

Long story short, an hour later and $261.73 lighter in my wallet, I have a new set of Motorcraft Tough Max batteries.

The originals lasted five years, so I got my use out of them.

You may consider investing in a good large capacity battery charger. Everybody with a diesel needs one (imho). I am surprised i have never seen a dual system go completely dead at the same time w/o something being left on. It usually starts to crank slow or gives some type of sign that one of the batteries is bad.

Well I precipitated that battery failure (and maybe on purpose subconsciously ) by listening to Hannity on Sirius last night, as I was repairing the water main next to my house. It took me two hours.

Given that the wife doesn't let me buy anything for this truck, unless it absolutely needs it and, given that the batteries were five year old factory OE, it was just a matter of time before they gave up the ghost.

FWIW, the truck was starting to crank a bit slow.

Rock Doc, I'll look into getting a battery charger for these batteries.

850 Amps really gets this 6.0L cranking quick!!!

I think my batteries are on their way out. They are the originals so I've gotten about 5 years out of them. I noticed the truck is cranking a little slower these days and lately the needles on the factory guages would bounce around during the start.

I was just hoping for another week out of mine...just wanted to make it to pay day. But I needed a jump this morning so after work I'll be shopping for batteries.

FWIW, Ford Quick Lane has a $20 rebate going for each battery.
