I have been having a problem with my truck (05 F-350 6.0) and no turbo boost. I pull a 12K 5er 95% of the time so I thought I would not have coking or a EGR problem. The truck has 20K on it. I was told that the fuel is causing the problem but will be fixed under warranty this time but next time the EGR fix is my problem if I don't use a fuel additive. They are also putting a kit in the turbo because it is also sticking. What a bunch of crap. Now Ford is blaming the fuel for EGR problems? Has anyone else been told to use a fuel additive to stop EGR problems or is this something to get out of warranty claims?
Ken..yeah, fmc said sometime ago..poor fuel can cause coking & use stanadyne perf./m.c additive or ? which may help. If tec. stated ONLY poor fuel can cause coking that would contradict..FMC TSB 06-4-12..which lists a BUNCH of things that can cause/contribute to coking. So..
For argument sake...poor fuel is responsible for coking = fmc not responsible, but gonna give you a break this time & fix under warr. Some use additive/some dont, I do. Maybe worthwhile if your getting fuel from many diff. place's. If same place all the time you need to ask about their fuel quality (cetane) etc. JMO! Good luck.
So let me get this straight. If we all put a fuel additive in our fuel, none of us will have egr problems? Or Ford just wont charge us for the repairs under a warranty?

I understand they will fix the egr once under warranty then you are on you own. If you use motorcrast centane boost and you still have egr problems under warranty I guess your screwed.

Fuel additive is a good thing. But it is NOT the fix-all for EGR valve related issues.Extended Idling will cause problems. These engines also need to be worked which helps keeps deposits down in the Intake and Turbo. But with the Crankcase vapors that are routed back into the intake and combine them with the Dirty exhaust that the EGR blends back in.You will still have a certain amount of Oily gunk building up in the Intake and on the EGR valve. There are No other ways to Not have this occur with the system intact. So Ford is giving you the run around on that.
My personal thoughts is that ford is using the low centene fuel to get out of paying for egr problems. How could they prove I didn't use centane boost if I have the same problelm? I don't let my truck idle and like I said I pull a 5er 95% of the time. When I leave home I pull a pass every direction I go so I do work this truck.

Interesting -- I use Motorcraft Cetene Booster in my 2004 F250 and I know it has helped my lack of power issues. But it did not help the EGR problem and I have gone through three of them, all under warranty. Never have heard before they would only replace one. When my dealer gave me the short answer "we can't find the problem", I wrote to the CEO/President of FMO, got a call from his executive office as well did my Ford dealer, a appointment was set up to fix my truck and the directions were given my Ford dealer by the FMO 6.0 engineer. Don't let them mess with you. Take it up the chain. Good luck. LAZYL

I would try to find the same bump I hit when leaving the dealer after I bought my truck in '04 that broke my Egr plug. Since then Iv never had an egr problem- I wonder why?
