Drone go away please help

My 05 with 922 miles is starting to get the drone at 1500 rpm's . I've read where some have install a piece of ss flex pipe in front of the muffler. Has anybody found what the cause or how to fix it. I don't want to go to the dealer without any info so they look at me like I'm crazy and tell me nothing wrong with my truck. If aftermarket exhaust fixes it why don't Ford pay for it. This has to go away its driving me nuts at 55mph I got to speed so I don't hear it. Help

Re: Drone go away please help

firesoutmatt,
check out www.intellidog.com/dieselmann/home.html
under powerstroke bulletins. About one third thru the bulletin you should see a mention of your problem. Print it off, take it to your dealer with all the numbers, codes,... and tell those boys to get her fixed.

Good luck,
TJW.

After spending a month in the shop and having it back only 2 weeks, it's back in the shop. Ford Customer service refused to send me a DSB Package. Told me the info is in the back of manual. Well truck is in shop and I don't have the info can you give it to me? No, it's in the manual.

Because that is not Ford's fix although they know it helps because an aftermarket exhaust re-tunes the system. I believe the problem started when a change was made to the turbo pedestal and the mentioned TSB addresses the issue. Sometimes you can affect a drone by simply loosening all of the exhaust clamps enough to allow them to move, drive the truck and get the system hot and then shut it down. After it cools, re tighten all clamps and fasteners from front to back. That method of "neutralizing" the system does not always work however, but it's worth a try.

Re: Drone go away please help

It does not always fix it. I work on quite a few of these with different brands of exhaust kits. turbo back. most early 04 and 03s are still there. get the updated pedestal.

Re: Drone go away please help

I should have the updated one being its an 05 right? This truck been doing this in its first 1k miles.I will check the #'s on the pedestal tommorrow and make sure its the updated one. Then its off to the dealer and see what happens there.Who knows maybe they can fix it.If not I quess its a turbo back system. Its going to be hard to tell the better half why I need to put money into a new truck that cost $40,000.00. I wonder why I would have to do that but the truck is alot better than my 01

Re: Drone go away please help

I got the updated pedestal, it made the drone worse. Go figure.
