Thanks TB! If you break off the tip inside the combustion chamber, does it pull the wire through with the tip?
(in other words, if the tip breaks off when it's installed, how much of the glow plug can be pulled through, into the combustion chamber?)
You notice the corkscrew on that piece sticking out of the top? I wonder if that's the "thread" impression on the piston crown?
I don't know......not a mechanic. Have you checked to see if another glow plug tip matches any of those indentations? Anyway, good luck, I was just trying to help out a little.

Hey TB, thanks for the effort. We're sneaking up on a solution this question little by little. Can you take a couple of pairs of pliers, and just bend that glow plug tip (the engine side, not the connection side) back and forth until it starts to break off, then pull to see what comes through the end with the tip?
In other words, I just need to know what comes out of a glow plug, if the tip breaks off in the engine.
44444444, you have been way too nice in this whole deal...what state are you in and what is the name of this dealership? If I were a betting man, I'd say the glow plug is your culprit, especially given the wire inside. Smash that glow plug tip and I'd bet that you have a winner with the shape on your piston crown, and now two glow plugs are missing, as is the wire.
If the mechs messing with this truck are reading this, YOU'RE A BUNCH OF SNEAKY, THIEVING %^&!!!!! Do this guy right and admit your mistakes!!!!
This is why I go to an indy mech. Screw the stealerships.

In that pic the wire is still attacked to both sides. I could see the wire breaking and staying in the tip or it could come out. There is some sort of insulation inside that breaks down to a powder substance when broken. So I don't think I gave you a clear answer. I guess it just depends on how it brakes off.
Hey 44x4 ; when Ford decides to do the RIGHT thing and replaces long block make sure your oil cooler gets replaced too because the stuff that wiped out EGR cooler is in your oil cooler too and the oil cooler coolant feeds the EGR cooler.

Wouldn’t miss this thread. Makes me feel like I’m working again.
Maybe a tech at the dealership or another who knows the dealership may be observing this forum, but (in a little whinny voice) I think there may be a few FSE’s, too.
It would be interesting to know who is in custody of that wire. It would be easy and not all that expensive to have a metallurgy analysis done on it to determine if its Nichrome. And where those other two GP's are.
The annular rings noted on the impressions of the object could be residual from the wire, edges of the valves or pistons combustion chamber. Some impacts show one ring, others show two.
It’s still my opinion that the object lifted the head and compromised the sealing surface.
I did some work on the photos, but I can only boost the resolution and message the forum images so far.

Come on, name the dealership. Let's all start calling. An overwhelming assault on the dealership has worked before. A fellow Subaru STi owner was getting the shaft just like you and over 3,000 phone calls later, he got a new engine.
Things like that get news coverage. All someone has to do is let the local media know what the deal is and direct them to the thread and sometimes they bite. As someone said earlier, you are being way more passive than I.

That's probably a good way to get this thread shut down. Along with talk about pending legal stuff.
Ok you guys are really freaking me out now. My 2006 has recently begun having long cranking time and my coolant is disappearing. I have 78,000 on it with a 100,000 warranty. I have been pulling my 38' Raptor since I got it.
Is there anything I should do to the truck before taking it to the dealer?
The only mods are CAT back exhaust and S&B filter element only.
TB..your EXACTLY right. Threads in past got deleted & we dont wanna loose this one.
44...If your truck in shop bay with head etc. off, I'm wondering how long it'll stay there or does it get pushed to back lot? Interesting speculation so far on mystery part/damage it caused.

Been brought up - in Post #22 on page 2 of this thread (and I agree w/ you BTW).
If the glow plug from that particular cylinder is completely missing, it will be impossible to prove anything, since the paperwork for the purchased glow plug reflects the shorter version.

Hey Jack, thanks for that photo work! I'm going to try to post the high resolution version below. If it works, take a look at about 6 o'clock on the piston....Do you see those embedded chunks with little pieces of wire sticking out of them?
As they said during the Nixon/Watergate trials.."IT'S NOT THE CRIME THAT GETS 'EM...IT'S THE COVERUP!"
Someone at the dealership INTENTIONALLY scraped this piston and removed the large wire piece, even though they told me that they COULD GO NO FARTHER without Ford authorization!
I don't usually pay much attention to internet conspiracy theories...I just wish this one didn't involve my TRUCK!
Ok, this is better, but I'm going to blow up the 6 o'clock area and see if I can make the pieces more visible..
Oh and if the FORD FIELD SERVICE ENGINEERS ARE LISTENING, this isn't just a matter of ethics... Potential buyers are listening, current owners are listening, and the farther this gets down the road, the more people are thinking, "Gosh, and it takes this much proof, just to get Ford to honor their warranty?"
