Maybe I'm missing something it just sounds like a lame excuse to not have it covered.

BTW, new EGR and oil cooler for my van was $4500 but that also included a new drive belt and transfer case flush ( and I called two other shops which were all within ~$150 of each other). You guys are getting off cheaper than us vanners. I have a coolant filter installed now and will be looking at making further "upgrades".
The contaminated fluids was the coolant, not the oil.

The oil cooler never leaked oil into the coolant. The oil cooler plugged, taking out the EGR cooler, that leaked coolant into the EGR flow; they replaced both plus the degas bottle.

Warranty is two sided: mileage and date/time. He only had 44k miles but it was an '04, so he was out of the OEM warranty but still inside the EW, which denied him due to the contaminated fluids.

This whole issue is covered in a thread with pics over on The*Diesel*Garage*com site, just do a title only search on "$2200".

Good luck.

I agree. My point to Sheetrock was that if you replace the EGR cooler and oil cooler but then don't install a coolant filter, more than likely you'll be replacing them both again. I see he did have a coolant filter installed, so *probably* the issue is moot for him; let's hope so.

Plugged cooler and or contaminated coolant was not the case here. It is the bad design of the cooler that got me. It was replaced the first time under warranty but when it started leaking again it was out of warranty so I just deleted it. Now I am guaranteed no EGR cooler leak again. Can't necessarily say that about the oil cooler but with proper water flow to it now I believe I won't have it go out again.
