6.0L Power Stroke Engine and DrivetrainDiscussion of the 6.0L Power Stroke diesel engine and drivetrain in the 2003-Up Super Duties and Excursions. No gas engine discussion allowed except on transmissions and drivetrain that pertain to all models. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 6.0L Power Stroke engine.
Well I know this engine either has a DPFE sensor, or an Exhaust Back Pressure sensor. I came to this conclusion because, if you look on the drivers side exhaust manifold, there's a tube that goes up to the thermostat on the engine, and then there's a sensor on that tube. This leads me to believe one of the two options i said a few lines ago is present. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I'm asking this because I know on the 04-07 6.0L there is a DPFE sensor because a friend of mine had a CEL for the sensor. Now I've heard that the early (03.5 to 04) "Cali" trucks have some of the items that the upgraded 6.0L engines came out with later. I will let you all know what I come up with in the next few days when my delete kit gets here.
i hav a 2004 f350 with a late 2003 6.0 i deleted EGR and got no CE light
Most 04 wont throw CE light... Some do some dont. 05s do, mine did lol. Use a programer to clear it. Or what I did was kept the delete in zip tied the egr vlv down and plugged the sensor in again. That works to clear it.

On the '03 to early '04 6.0 the trucks did not get a check engine light if the eye valve was pulled out or unplugged. '05 and up trucks were programmed so that they would throw a CEL if the the egr system was tampered with. HOWEVER, the catch is any truck built for sale in California was programmed so if the egr cooler was taken out, there would be a CEL.
I left my EGR valve in, but removed the cooler and received a CEL. I ended up getting an SCT iTSX and turned the EGR off. No more CEL, and no more possibility of the cooler leaking coolant.

Can you be more specific about how you zip tied it closed? Did you reinstall the valve in the intake? Or is it hanging outside?

He means...his delete kit had a plate that covered over the egr hole in the intake. So he just zip tied the valve to something on top of the engine and plugged it back in. When i did my delete i just left the valve in place and plugged in. You still have to use a programmer to stop the CEL light on 05 and newer trucks and some 04s... All years need to have the valve plugged in. For some reason if you unplug it and leave it unplugged it effects how the cooling fan operates.
I have my 06 deleted, I left the valve in because it doesn't really matter, the valve just operqates as normal but no exhaust gasses are coming in... I have a SCT and the tune deletes the other egr codes...

Yeah. The block off plate is installed. But the eft vlv sits on top. Zip tied right there. It gets air flow just for the natural air around it. It thinks it's installed and not lol. I have a tuner and will get the innovative diesel tunes soon but it was a lot of money to do it all at once. Been there also a year no cel. Life caught up and and to make a delay. But still no cel. I check for codes very month or so still none. Also if it is just unplugged the computer sees it as an open in the circuit which throws the cel. Pull it out, plug it in and find a nice spot for it to sit and snug it down. Good to go. Poor man fix
