I cleaned the EGR valve in my 2005 F350 6.0 and what a mess! It was almost plugged up. How often do I need to clean it? Will it run any better clean? Is it worth cleaning it?
I clean mine and the manifold as best I can once a year, which usually is about 20K. I can,t prove that it does any good or runs any better. But I feel its good preventitive maintenance. I have not had any problems with it since doing this. This reminds me that its about time to do it again.

I agree - except my interval is 30k (just did it and it was filthy) - unless I find at 60k the ccv re-route has made a big difference.

I,d bet that cuts the filth in half. Not to mention the CAC boot problems it eliminates. I just havn,t found the time yet to do it myself. Its in the near future though.

My ccv re-route is to a frame rail filter element and then back to the same turbo inlet tube. The hose run to the filter element is an initial vertical rise up and over the brake master cylinder and then a long constant vertical drop to the filter (no liquid legs in the hose run). The return line is a long constant vertical rise. This configuration is to maximize liquid disengagement from the vent lines and to eliminate backpressure from liquid legs caused by dips and rises on the same run of hose. It took awhile to saturate the filter element (maybe a month) but now I am constantly draining oil from the filter drain valve. I have gotten at least 1/2 cup of oil. I have had it installed for about 3 months.

He makes the filter out of PVC and with his own filter media.
This is a good thread on the mod (with pictures): http://www.***************.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15797
Also - I have my own pictures and install instructions if you go this route.
This is what NCHornet says about his filter (and I have found it to be true so far):
Since the filter media inside the filter is new, it may take 10k miles before enough oil is accumulated to drain from the pet **** on the bottom of the filter. After that, you should drain it every oil change. The amount of oil will vary from truck-to-truck, but on average, you should see 1-3 tablespoons in 5k miles. If you ever have more than this, then check to make sure you still have the "high point" in the hose around the degas bottle or master cylinder. If you lose this high point, more oil will leave the crank case and the filter will fill up more quickly.
The filter media never needs to be changed.
